Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

It's odd enough having Hrothgar when the beast tribes are talked about in such negative terms, but that seems to be handwaved by them being a race that has apparently always existed and always been regarded as "men" despite their appearance. You can't make the same excuse for Garleans, an existing race with an existing reputation.

Considering how the "beast tribe" moniker was created by Ul'dah and Garlemald to excuse their racism, I don't doubt for a second Hrothgar were also called that when they first bumped heads with Eorzea before learning the common tongue. It would depend on what year they'd want to have had the Hrothgar having first met Eorzeans. I could easily see that term being used a lot for them in the early days before it slowly phased out of use for Hrothgar.

In the past, quite likely, but in the story as it stands now they are apparently not considered beasts and have no negative consequences of looking like they do.

Garleans, on the other hand, have a negative reputation now.
