Exactly. The ingredient is that useless, i have to give it away.
The matt is even farmable by mobs.
Over produced reagent is over produced.

Im really confused by all this cause if i target the hot spots for a certain ore, i get ores more often than not. The hot spots can be found all over on various sites. When I need an ore I just go to this grade node in this area and set it to that target and mine all the ore i need. Granted im not high in mining as of yet but when i need something like iron ore i gather it by the truckload in a fairly small amount of time and get very few alumens.
So is it really a ratio issue or is it just a need to target the correct spot issue?

Alumen ore is the Unwanted Dye of mining >.>

At higher lvls you only get 1 Mythril/Cobalt/Electrum per strike, whereas you can get 3, 4, 5 Alumen Ore per strike, so even if you only strike Alumen once or twice per Mining point, given 8 strikes, you end up with an equal amount if not more Alumen than the Ore you are targeting.Im really confused by all this cause if i target the hot spots for a certain ore, i get ores more often than not. ah ok that makes more sense then. at my lvl (25) i get more ore than anything, hitting the sweet spot i will get ore 5/6 the time and maybe some alumen or a raw stone here and there. The alumen doesnt bother me tho, as a leatherworker i burn thru it to the point where i still buy it off the ahAt higher lvls you only get 1 Mythril/Cobalt/Electrum per strike, whereas you can get 3, 4, 5 Alumen Ore per strike, so even if you only strike Alumen once or twice per Mining point, given 8 strikes, you end up with an equal amount if not more Alumen than the Ore you are targeting.
At the higher end of things I hardly get any Alumen or Brimstone at all...if you aim for the right sweet spot you can almost ALWAYS get what you want...if you are geared right..sure I might end up with a few alumen at the end of the day...but no where near the OP's numbers. Actually I almost always get either the ore I wanted(electrum, Mythril what ever), Iron or Silver(depending on where I am) or a raw gem. Since I know the sweet spots if I don't get the ore on the first swing I go for the Iron...if its not there I go for the gem. Rarely I'll get the brimstone or alumen.
1) Make sure your aiming at the right spots
2) Gear yourself right.
and you should be fine.
also
3) Mine in a level appropriate area.

Hayden hit the nail on the head. Nonetheless Alumen is over abundant during the first 30 levels for those who refuse to level leathercraft. In which case, sell on wards or to npc, preferably on wards though seeing as it sells well.
