if I remember rightly, somewhere in this thread, you pointed out about Adding Rent to Housing as well, to make it fair. Basing it on "Well, we pay rent in real life, so why not do it in-game?"
You know what we also do in real life? Pay a mortgage and eventually own the flat / house / land entirely. Something that we already have in-game by the mere lack of "Rent payments". It could be easy to assume the amount we pay for the apartment / land is the FULL price and Rent would only really be a thing if you can't pay the full amount, yet decide to get a 'deal' to pay it off over time.
There is a reason why you buy the land for 3m - 4m then add another 500K for the housing deed. Buying the Land is the expensive part.
Yes... and no. You might have the title to the property free and clear, you still have other obligations.
I'm getting close to paying off the mortgage on my condo. Does that mean I'm not going to have pay anything on it afterwards? Not at all. I'll still have to pay homeowner's association fees into the pool that covers the cost of maintenance and repairs on the common and shared areas (such as repairs to the roof, pool, landscaping, etc.). I still have to pay taxes to the county annually. Failure to pay either HOA fees or property taxes could result in my condo being seized and auctioned off, leaving me without a home.
Some real life home owners may not have to worry about HOA fees but it's a rare place you can live that doesn't have property taxes.
While "rent" on a house may not make sense once you've paid a purchase price, other types of recurring fees would. Depending on how long you own a property and what you originally paid, those fees could end up more than the original purchase price of the land. If I add up the HOA fees plus property taxes I've paid since purchasing my condo, next year they will surpass the original purchase price. Safe to say that purchasing the land is not the only expensive part, it's just the one part that hits you as a lump sum instead of being spread out over time.
Which is why you're going to have a hard time getting people to engage in constructive discussion with you. You started pulling the victim card in this thread when there was no need. That was wrong of you.
Let us know when you're willing to acknowledge your mistakes.

I've had to report one stalker into the ground before they were dealt with, and there's another that's basically sitting on that line. Are you seriously suggesting we should condone stalking?
Also, never apologize for anything on the internet because people of ill intent will take that apology and rake you over the coals with it, as has been shown in this forum several times. You also have several lovely people that will dig into your past and find something that (when pulled out of context) is really bad and then proceed to beat you over the head with it. This is especially true when you are controversial.
I also never make mistakes, just happy accidents =D
Eh, it helped do some thought exploration around both apartments and rent, and what their role in FFXIV should be, so in that respect the thread was a success (although many would disagree with that assessment).
At this time, we need to see how the new stuff in Endwalkers shakes out first, and how that has an impact on housing... That might help increase the perceived value of apartments (as it gives a viable alternative to house gardening), or it might end up as a wash. Either way, apartments should really be left alone for the time being.
Rent, on the other hand, would actually be better (IMO) for houses as it allows for a replacement mechanic for all the auto-demo mechanics currently associated with houses. Not only would that help make things really straightforward, especially if they allow you to bank at least two months or so of rent, but it means someone can take a break from this game for longer than the current system especially if the rent mechanic allows for others to pay rent on your house (so someone could make an arrangement to take an extended break for whatever reason and still have their house). Additionally, having to pay rent may cause people to give up their houses, which helps with the supply issue for houses. As there's rent, that's going to decrease demand, which also helps the housing issues. And by making the FC house rent significantly higher than the personal one, it makes it harder for the people that own wards to continue to own them, which will help with the housing supply.
Who in this thread is stalking you?
Where on earth are you getting the idea I condone stalking?
Cannot you genuinely not understand it's this sort of reaction and constant shift of topics by you in a thread you started to discuss how to improve apartments that is leading to the impression you're just trolling this forum?
You say you're not trying to troll. Prove it. Return to your original topic - how to make apartments more attractive to players - and stick to it.
oh, see. That's pretty simple. (From a theory standpoint)
They could:
- Add more Apartment Sizes
- Allow apartment owners to 'upgrade' to bigger sizes
- Communal Greenhouse for cultivation / Crossbreeding
- FC 'Penthouses' that have regular Apartment rooms inside at a discount (similar to FC rooms in a house)
- Community Workshop (No airships / Subs, but construction capabilities.)
- FC Workshop (Everything from a Houses Workshop. Kept separate from Community Workshop)
- Communal Lounge (Only Apartment owners of that building can enter. Just a small rooftop pool, for examples sake)
With all of that added to Apartments, the only benefit to having a house is the land value. Actually having a physical structure in the world, complete with a garden. It keeps the main value of the houses, yet the alternative is rather lucrative in its own right.
(I personally doubt any of these will be added to Apartments, but one can dream. If it does, I would happily relinquish my Shiro house.)
Catstab specifically. Go do a look through their post history and almost every single post from at least the last 25 are a direct response to me. At this point it's like "dude, get a life, go to other forums, and leave me alone" but.... they won't do that =/
Yes, but that's how I'm wired =D
Discussion on that point is pretty much over tbh - make them bigger/multifloor, give them a balcony for some outdoor decorations (you want bigger ones, get a house), have the new Endwalker Content obsolete/replace crossbreed gardening, give us public access to a workshop. There's not much else to discuss on this topic and as the OP for the thread is intertwine with rent, and has been more about rent (which is on topic btw), a stricter discussion on apartment improvement outside of rent would make more sense in a different thread - so stop complaining about it and go start one if you want to discuss that so badly.
