Do you happen to have the link for that? I was looking into when it was implemented the other night and it looked like around 3.4, but (as that's a long time) I don't really recall much of what was going on on the dev side prior to the patch release >.>

I would be interested to know what was said, just don't really know where would be the correct channel for that.

Same as any change to any game system, you'd get every reaction in the book for like a week, things'd calm down and life would go on.

And players would stop buying apartments because the main appeal of an apartment - lack of demolition - would no longer exist while they suddenly have a new major disadvantage - rent - that houses lack. They'll just keep saving up that gil for the day they can finally get a house instead.

You're honestly not thinking this through all the way.

I like Apartments because you don't have to worry about being evicted, unlike Houses. Apartments are the one thing we casual players can get in terms of housing, don't you DARE to justify taking them away.

Seriously, if for some ungodly reason SE accepts and implements your idea and my Apartment room is gone because I took a break from the game to avoid burn out I am blaming YOU.

    And if everything had rent?

Main thing FFXIV needs is instanced housing, and if apartments upgrades + Island Sanctuary (or whatever's coming in EW) (SE did not think that name through and how we'd shorten it) can bring apartments up to being a viable alternative to housing.... that would be a way forward. Main concern with that, however, is that there are a finite amount of apartments and while it will take longer to max them out than what we have with housing currently.... that day will eventually happen and we're going to be in the position with apartments that we are with housing.

Then apartments would still be uniquely upsetting people in that you used to not need to worry about demo, but now you do.

Either way, please explain to me (I may have missed it, sorry if I'm asking you to re-explain yourself) how adding rent accomplishes the goal from your original post:

When did I say anything about attacking you? I just don't want to lose the one type of housing I can get as a casual player. And instead of telling me your case, you get defensive, why?

Ok, now run through the scenario where I'm actually not trolling.... just being indecisive and changing positions periodically as the thread unfolds.

And doing a fair bit of ignoring people.
I've gone back through this thread and see you've been blanking people who have asked how adding rent is supposed to make apartments more appealing, and I think MilkieTea is still waiting for an apology.

Players not interested in paying rent would let their houses demo to reclaim what gil they can.

Players willing to pay rent would skip over apartments and go straight to houses because there would now be plenty available.

Players who had been on break just to come back to find their apartments demolished would be pissed beyond belief at all the seasonal event items they had stored and now lost, and would cancel their subscriptions.

Your idea of making things more attractive does not work. You don't make things more attractive by taking away the perks that were used to make them attractive in the first place.
