Also btw, you’re really sweet and I’m sorry for taking my upset out on you before. I have a thing with wanting people to be upfront with their beliefs and thoughts, and I was getting pretty upset with what I viewed as you “skirting around” it. I have no problem with people holding different viewpoints and beliefs (I think it makes the world go round!) and I’m sorry that I acted the way I did. Was totally unacceptable!

if I remember rightly, somewhere in this thread, you pointed out about Adding Rent to Housing as well, to make it fair. Basing it on "Well, we pay rent in real life, so why not do it in-game?"

You know what we also do in real life? Pay a mortgage and eventually own the flat / house / land entirely. Something that we already have in-game by the mere lack of "Rent payments". It could be easy to assume the amount we pay for the apartment / land is the FULL price and Rent would only really be a thing if you can't pay the full amount, yet decide to get a 'deal' to pay it off over time.

There is a reason why you buy the land for 3m - 4m then add another 500K for the housing deed. Buying the Land is the expensive part.

Yes... and no. You might have the title to the property free and clear, you still have other obligations.

I'm getting close to paying off the mortgage on my condo. Does that mean I'm not going to have pay anything on it afterwards? Not at all. I'll still have to pay homeowner's association fees into the pool that covers the cost of maintenance and repairs on the common and shared areas (such as repairs to the roof, pool, landscaping, etc.). I still have to pay taxes to the county annually. Failure to pay either HOA fees or property taxes could result in my condo being seized and auctioned off, leaving me without a home.

Some real life home owners may not have to worry about HOA fees but it's a rare place you can live that doesn't have property taxes.

While "rent" on a house may not make sense once you've paid a purchase price, other types of recurring fees would. Depending on how long you own a property and what you originally paid, those fees could end up more than the original purchase price of the land. If I add up the HOA fees plus property taxes I've paid since purchasing my condo, next year they will surpass the original purchase price. Safe to say that purchasing the land is not the only expensive part, it's just the one part that hits you as a lump sum instead of being spread out over time.

Which means we also shouldn't play the victim for sympathy when we're in the wrong, and own our mistakes.
Which is why you're going to have a hard time getting people to engage in constructive discussion with you. You started pulling the victim card in this thread when there was no need. That was wrong of you.

I pay less than 200 USD a year in property tax.

Yay tiny house in an undesirable town with no amenities.

That's not necessarily a bad way to live. People clutter up their lives with so much unnecessary junk.

Also, I'm paying way more than that on taxes. It would be even worse if taxes weren't based on assessed value at time of purchase instead of estimated current market value. HOA fees are almost double what I pay for taxes.

Plot is relinquished [placard does state for Relocation or Sale during their respective phases] > Invisible 10-hour-timer starts for Relocation (that\\'s 42% of a real day to decide). Once Relocation timer is up no more Relocation and the plot goes up for sale > next 0-4 hours that plot can not be bought (that is minimum of 58% of a real day to login and see there could potentially be a plot up, given the relocation goes unphased) > 4-12 hours the invisible timer starts (like the current one) > invisible timer goes off or after 12 hours > the plot goes up for insta-purchase. The minimum amount of turn around time would be 14 hours from relinquish to purchase with max being 26 hours. Relocation still gets priority but timers favor a buyer. Lastly, the knowledge of a rough buy window with only an 8 hour spam window is priceless. What do you think?

    1. Posting it once in one thread is enough. Not necro several with the same damn thing.

    2. Shortening the the timer wouldn't matter much, infact knowing it's far smaller would only compound the issues we have. Botters camping plots and people no-life'ing the placards. While he risk to physical health is lessened (over a day at max instead of over three days at max) it wouldn't truly be worth the effort to implement.

This is not a good idea for two reasons.

    1. A big draw of apartments is the fact that they are not subject to autodemo.

    2. There is already plenty of apartments anyway, especially considering that some folks would rather cut off a digit than consider it as an alternative and/or stopgap to having a house.
