I must be one of the very few people who just doesn't care about this guy. He's not entertaining and I just don't care what he does.
That being said, most of the American servers are full so there isn't enough room for a huge influx of people. His "followers" will have to spread out.
I, for one, am super excited for Asmond to join FFXIV. Even if briefly.
What's the negatives? Really? Everyone goes on and on about his "chat" but that's where you have people spamming into a void. They don't have that luxury in FFXIV (apart from newbie chat which can be moderated easily).
He's gunna bring a ton of people into the game. Some will stay. Most will leave when Asmond has finished this his stint.
He'll show some of the more hardcore content in the game that most people who don't know about ff never get to see.
He'll give it his best - he said he'd be as fair as he can.
And even if he doesn't like it... who cares?
I...don't care so long as people stop posting about it. Especially certain ones, who basically call this game junk on the regular. The burgeoning sense of entitlement has become tiresome to the point that I don't visit the forums as much as I once did.
I don't watch FF streams. I sometimes unintentionally participate in them but I'm too busy playing to watch someone's usually degrading commentary about something I would normally get enjoyment out of.
If they are courteous, then I welcome them to the game. If not, then they can fade the wretched morass that those types of players eventually slide into. The fact that they share content with the internet means very little to me and doesn't elevate them above anyone else IMO.
I wouldn't care about him either, but since he's a big-name streamer and people seem to think this is important I looked up a few of his YouTube clips where he's reacting to FFXIV stuff. From what I can tell, this is absolutely not the game for him. He hates the aesthetics of 85% of the stuff he's seen so far. He hates the music. He hates miqo'te, viera, and lalafell. Other streamers have strongly advised him not to livestream his FFXIV experience so he can actually enjoy it, and he has not heeded that advice. On that note, this means he probably will just skip every cutscene in the MSQ because he doesn't want his chat to watch him patiently read story dialogues (but I expect he would skip it regardless).
Honestly, why does anyone think there is even a tiny chance he will like this game? I would not be surprised if he tries it for a day and then never plays again. Maybe there is some truth to the proposition that "any publicity is good publicity," but I think there is an equal chance that his audience will just see him being bored at low-level ARR content and come away feeling validated that "FFXIV is a lame weeb game."
He already set a date July 3rd I believe. So yeah he is going to be playing.I doubt Asmon is going to be playing anytime soon. WoW is dropping their next content patch next week. If he plays it will probably be after the DC travel opens up anyway. Most the people I know who play both WoW and Ffxiv have finished the relics they wanted to do and are probably going to be playing WoW during the summer. Seriously though, why is everyone so concerned about this guy? He has a pretty specific audience. I doubt it’s going to impact much here.
He is... very upset with WoW. Like, it’s BAD what they’ve done. The man is definitely going to be trying it soon.I doubt Asmon is going to be playing anytime soon. I don't know who this is and couldn't possibly care less where he plays. If there is a mad influx of players then they will just turn off character creation for that server for a while. This is a non-issue.
I feel for him.
I used to be deeply invested in WoW and there's a lot about the setting that I absolutely adore. It has a lot of rich lore and the selection of playable races and classes is much more to my liking than what FFXIV has on offer - though with the addition of Reaper as of Endwalker, my desired aesthetics are being catered to a little more. (At least where 'edgy' and 'anti-hero' is concerned. I'm still eagerly awaiting some sort of ranger and druid job...)
I began to fall out of love with WoW right around the same time as Cataclysm launched and destroyed the original game world. Due to a lack of options on the market to my tastes, though, I stubbornly stuck it out and it wasn't until the Mists of Pandaria expansion that I took my leave altogether.
It wasn't easy. Years of investment, established friendships, hard earned achievements and money spent had to be left behind. Luckily FFXIV managed to pull me in enough to invest in it on a long term basis.
Though I'm always going to be wary - and keeping an eye out for signs that FFXIV is following the same general trajectory of WoW itself. We're not there just yet, thankfully - though I'd be lying if I said I didn't raise an eyebrow from time to time.
I think the biggest difference was highlighted this fanfest with Sokens tearful speech in regards to his cancer battle- and that’s what really solidified it for me that I don’t think they’ll ever go down the same path WoW has.
There is WAY too much love in their hearts for this game. Questionable things aside, WoW has lost that love. You can feel when something is crafted with love versus contempt and even outside looking in I’m upset for WoW players. I told my boyfriend about the recent flub up they’ve done and he stared, incredulous. He’s been playing for close to a decade and he’s never seen such a massive mess-up.
As much as the XIV devs make mistakes - it’s clear to see that not only do they care about the game, they care about the players. We can gripe and moan about the little things, and we do! There are always going to be things to complain about. But at the end of the day we’re happy. We sit down and we play a game we *enjoy*. We don’t feel locked in. It’s not a chore, for most of us. But EVERY WoW player I’ve talked to hates the game. They keep going back because they hope it’ll change but it doesn’t.
