I've played FFXIV off and on since launch (with long gaps here and there). Decided to come back and re-roll from scratch to reexperience the story again with fresh eyes. Just got my White Mage Lv.50 Cleric set a few nights ago, and noticed something I've never seen in all my years of playing:



Wait, am I seeing things!? What is this on my iconic WHM robes!?

I have so many questions. Why is there a duck on my robe? What do ducks have to do with WHM? Or, if it's not a duck, what is it? No, scratch that last one, it is definitely a duck.

I'm more grossed out by the way the ship's body flexes and undulates. I thought it was just a spaceship, not a living thing. I wonder if that was the intended canon back in FFIV?

Me: "Oh, so it's a ship that looks like a whale?"
Mysidian Elder: "That's not what I said, but whatever helps you sleep at night kiddo."
Me: "Boy, there sure are a lot of dead krill and half-digested fish aboard this vessel..."

Why is there a duck on your robe? To show that you aren't made of wood, therefore not a witch.

I can't even cast Float in this game!

Well, considering the original WHM relic staff Thyrus canonically has petrified birds entombed on the top of the staff (according to the artist who designed it), I'm not surprised at all (that's the AF 1.5 set though, the original AF1 set just has a plain brown bag with a leaf motif on it, so the AF 1.5 sets are always slightly 'different' to the default. But yeah, still creepy. ).
