The great streamer Asmongold is joining FFXIV

To be fair, due to the rules the GMs follow nobody knows the evidence they use to sentence a player; due to the same rules, nobody even knows without speculation what event spurred the action being taken. Due to the above I doubt we'll ever have that level of verification but we do know gms have access to it, we just dunno how thorough they are about using this resource.

Personally speaking I say hi and, if a run gets significantly borked, (something like a dc or a kick or a leaving person that leaves us unable to prog a dungeon) I shoot the breeze with the party cordially enough. Though that's more due to the speed of dungeons than anything else.

Fair enough that there cannot BE proof. But when all we have is the word of people who got banned that they were totally innocent.. I believe being a little skeptical and trusting that my experience (and the testimony of people I believe) says that you just don't be a jerk and you're OK is probably a little more believable VS the narrative that it's just a matter of time before that eff word you said 7 years ago comes back to haunt you .


Yes we should raise eyebrows if we get excessive accounts of people being unfairly actioned.. but when you pay attention to these small amounts of accounts we currently have they invariably end up showing hints as to why they got actioned in the first place.

I have yet to play any game where the rule enforcement system wasn't corrupt, including this one. Communities in them continued to survive.

I have yet to see that in this game. If you're talking individual GMs making mistakes, that's a different issue than having to be fearful of chatting in game because you think the GMs as a whole will just not take any report seriously. I have yet to see any evidence of that, or you won't have people arguing openly in this game.

Asmongold may not really play this game for long considering he doesn't seem to like anime in general though at one point Final Fantasy leaned more closer to a Fairy Tale look until FF7 and then it was more like a hybrid look of Eastern/Western aesthetics (FF8 being a good example of this) and then went back to the Fairy tale look in FF9.

Finally FFX that was a mix of a lot of aesthetics that blended real well together, etc.

FF seems to take whatever look fancies the Developers, and they do a awesome job at it really.

Current FF seems to lean way more into a Anime look and attitude these days.

Then you aren't paying attention. People getting banned for things like swearing while serial harassers remain for months. RP groups getting banned for using party finder to advertise while RTM advertisements and groups are not touched. The mere fact that GMs are not allowed to tell you what you did wrong leaves it rife for corruption with no way to fight any such punishment if innocent.

I guess it depends if he will like gameplay or not. You get used to looks eventually (I even got used to female midlander's princess run...). On the other hand Blizzard announced patch 9.1 pretty soon after Asmongold said he will try FFXIV so he might change his plans.

Considering what has been happening the past few days I doubt Asmongold is going to try FFXIV now even though he said he would. Bellular is apparently being attacked for liking and playing FFXIV over WoW. And I'm 100% sure it's asmongold's chat that is doing it. His chat acts like complete fools whenever FFXIV is mentioned and asmongold has done a few reaction/review videos of bellular playing FFXIV and they go crazy. So now i think asmongold isn't going to try FFXIV. Which is fine. No loss.

As a major influencer, he sure made a smart move to raise attention and increase engagement. I am sure FFXIV benefitted, even if not by much. Since the WoW audience is significantly larger and more present on streaming etc. (FFXIV has a major weakness there), I think it would be bad business for Asmongold to do anything other than what he did here.

Lets face it, WoW will always be bigger than FF. Every patch, every expansion just absolutely drains players from everywhere else, when tons of people snap back like a rubber band for that initial rush. FFXIV has the same, though smaller, engine of FOMO-fueled old loyalty going on.
This is really the problem of the industry. Its really REALLY hard to get people to give up on years and years of time investment in their games and characters (because then we all have to stop lying to ourselves that its not wasted time) and stick to a new thing.
