Like I can appreciate you're trying to give advice to new people you think is helpful and will keep them out of trouble but it paints the whole game in an oppressive light that just isn't there.
To be fair, due to the rules the GMs follow nobody knows the evidence they use to sentence a player; due to the same rules, nobody even knows without speculation what event spurred the action being taken. Due to the above I doubt we'll ever have that level of verification but we do know gms have access to it, we just dunno how thorough they are about using this resource.

Personally speaking I say hi and, if a run gets significantly borked, (something like a dc or a kick or a leaving person that leaves us unable to prog a dungeon) I shoot the breeze with the party cordially enough. Though that's more due to the speed of dungeons than anything else.
