Could we get "mid-level" relic gear added for newer jobs?

After their level 50 job quest (when the ARR jobs would get a coffer with their relic gear) AST gets this:

I know they get those, and it would be better than nothing, but they're not themed to the classes. I want to see it go the other way and replace those generic sets with dedicated ones.

instead of recoloring old sets and job locking them, I'd prefer it if the devs instead spent their time making new new sets that at least a whole role can enjoy.

If that's the choice, then sure I'd rather original sets.

But if it's straightforward and quick to create new colour variants - I assume it is considerably quicker than building new things from scratch - and your choice is between extra recolours and nothing at all, surely the recolours are preferable?

I'd rather have nothing TBH.
AF gear should be better than a recolor.
Especially since, like with your issue with the coffers, recolors aren't themed to the classes. Sure, you could repurpose some old sets, like the Thavnairian set for DNC, but that's not satisfying for me.
Either they go whole hog and make a new set, or I'd rather they do other things.

It should be pointed out that the Stormblood poetics vendor doesn't open until after fighting Shinryu, so anyone who picked up dancer or gunbreaker at 60 and then leveled it as their main can't use tomes to get over that hump.

Why should that be pointed out? There shouldn't be a route to the end of the game that encourages you to skip the MSQ. The lack of a gear option there is a signpost pointed at Shinryu, saying "clear this first."

That doesn't make sense on several levels.

Firstly the presence of a tome vendor prior to fighting Shinryu would in no way allow, let alone encourage, skipping the MSQ. Heavensward gives you access to the vendors in Idyllshire as soon as you arrive, but nobody is skipping Thordan because of it.

And if the lack of gear is because you're supposed to beat Shinryu first, how does that explain why most classes can get gear immediately upon reaching level 70 prior to fighting Shinryu? And why should GNB and DNC alone miss out?

Floortank seems to be saying that if they made the level 70 tone vendors available prior to Shinryu, that would somehow "encourage people to skip the MSQ" which doesn't make sense in any case, but my counterpoint is that Heavensward does make its tome vendors available prior to the equivalent fight without an issue.

You can't skip those fights either way, so how would the presence of a vendor encourage people to skip an unskippable fight?

I was really expecting they'd change access to Stormblood tome gear once Shadowbringers came out. There's a perfect opportunity at level 68 when you return to the rebuilt Rhalgr's Reach - and a matching opportunity-in-waiting at level 78 where you get full access to Eulmore. And yet Idyllshire remains the odd one out in letting you access it straight away.

Dragging this from the depths to throw in my prediction for reaper starter gear.

There's not a lot of gear with that vibe and I was stumped for a while, but finally I remembered the Void Ark Striking set which is a cool design and I think it would fit well.

My only other maybe-guess was the light DPS Cryptlurker set, but that doesn't have quite the same feel to it.

Also it occurred to me that the Field Commander's coat would be great for sage but it's very unlikely they'd give that away for free.

Considering DRK got a Heavy Wolfram set, I'm not sure it'll be anything other than generic level appropriate maiming gear.

But that was the really early class when they just got generic crafted gear and not job-themed gear.

Why point out DRK over the four jobs that have come since then and received dedicated starter gear, some of it based on models from other roles?
