I actually ran into this playing on DRG in The Aery (heavensward). The tank was just CONSTANTLY moving around during boss fights, and driving me crazy since I didn't even come close to my positionals. I asked him "Could you please not strafe and move around so much? When you tank, don't have to move that much" He replied with "Pfftt deal with it weeb."

I dismissed the insult and sheer ignorance. I proceeded to tell the tank, "If you move the boss I can't hit my positionals and my DPS will suffer." The other DPS agreed even though they were a RDM.

He again replied back... "Dude wtf?" "I have been playing MMO's for 10 years and I don't need you telling me what to do!"

    I then asked which MMO?

And the tank said "WoW, I think I know how to tank"

I then said well this is FFXIV and the combat is VERY different, I hope you understand you will be kicked from Extremes/Savage/Ultimate tanking like that.

He then said. "O I C you're just telling me this because I a stupid WoW refugee!"

Then I replied "No i'm telling you this because you're driving me crazy by moving the boss all over the place and I can't hit my positionals." Now I have the mentor crown on, but that doesn't mean anything. But the healer was an FC mate and he chimed in too.

The healer said this "Hey man, we get it you know how to play a game, but please listen to (myself). He has been tanking in our FC for years, has every tank to 80 and might know what he's talking about."

I have never felt so humbled in all my days playing XIV.

Now with all that said it should NOT be this hard to get people to cooperate. WoW or not....you won't see FFXIV veterans acting like that. I can't explain it, but FFXIV veterans are just more respectful. I to also played WoW for many years, but I NEVER understood why WoW players think this is acceptable behavior. I'm not saying everyone that plays WoW is a horrible person, but there were some real bad apples when I played. And they acted just like this guy.

He shaped up after everyone in the party got on him. I sort of felt bad afterwards and sent him a tell "Hey man, just trying to make you a better tank, no hard feelings"

    He just said "Thanks"

I told them yes and they told me "Welcome" and to keep the pets since I was new and told me if I needed help then ask them.

I have had nothing but great experiences from telling people that I was a mythic raider from WoW. And that I wanted to play FF from now. The people here have been so nice to me. So nice in fact that I find it cool and strange all at the same time. I have been so reclused and introverted in WoW that the challenge for me in FF is learning to talk and chill with people who are doing nothing but being nice. I am loving FFXIV. It is a awesome and great community/
This has been my experience almost note for note!

That kind of play would be terrible there, too. WoW also has positional elements, even if generally more subtle (outside of skills like Backstab) and some very scary cleaves that would need to be aimed out, atop stuff being left on the floors, etc., all of which require the melee to have a good sense of where the tank will be going. That in turn obliges the tank to move smoothly and understandably for best party performance.

There is some kiting at times, but that's only at the range out of reach of enemies. Tank spazzing is arguably even more crippling for melee DPS there than here.

also, I thought it was quite obvious that me calling them toxic was more or less a joke because of said context, same with gcbtw
on the other hand, I also do agree that it is not toxic to ignore someone, hell, it's the first thing I tell people when someone is bothering or harassing them and it's the only way to deal with the situation without going to a 'higher instance'

plus, you know, saying he isn't going to argue with a 'troll' but basically doing just that in his post when he quoted yours, knowing that he totally won't read my post...
I find it funny tbh, seems like he cares a lot about it
maybe we'll run into each other at one point and they see that this 'troll' is everything but that :>

idk if this is related to the current conversation, but I've been annoyed recently with the huge influx of youtube videos that include "wow refugee reacts to this" or "wow refugee tries this" or "wow refugee does that", it's obvious they include that in their titles because they draw a lot of views. And FFXIV players will click on them every time because they constantly want to be validated with their game of preference.

Being a WoW "veteran", or "refugee" is treated like a career. I stopped getting those awhile back when I started clicking "not interested" or "don't recommend channel" on my YouTube recommendations.

Yeah, I typically avoid videos with those in the title unless I know the creator and like their content...which is a very short list to begin with.

It's just kind of funny to me, because it reminds me of videos like "Musician reacts", or "Paramedic reacts", etc.. which are actual fields of expertise, as opposed to "WoW Veteran/Refugee reacts".

My YouTube recommended is for animal videos, and ASMR.

It's not about being a career, but it is similar in that it's supposed to show you their experience and point of view. If they say "WoW veteran", than supposedly they're used to the various WoW incarnations and may still like WoW but also might be looking to try something new. On the other hand, "WoW refugee," while having an unfortunate connotation, does imply that they do not like the current WoW.

YouTube video titles are supposed to be catchy (as a neutral term rather than "clickbaity" which I feel people tend to misuse to label videos they don't like), and short, descriptive terms usually work better.
