I appreciate the thought, but I'd rather have non-unisex styles for viera. That was to be the saving grace for "viera unique" styles. If I had one wish for male viera, it would likely be that all hair is genderunlocked, that way females would get new hairstyles and the males would have more options (I thin kin particular, the boyish hairstyle from the females would be a great addition considering the males so far dont have anything that looks similar).

Genderlocking is good tbh, unlocking hairstyles takes time and shouldn't be done if it's at the cost of male hairstyles. 17 male hairstyles (like females right now) and everything locked is better than less male exclusive hairstyle + females ones for everyone. If they can share 34 hairstyles ofc it's good but if they can't do this i'm good with just 17.
The premise of a race is that they look alike; even male midlander and female Midlander look alike.
I don't think they're trying to make male Viera female Viera without breasts.
Just like female Highlander isn't male Highlander with breasts.
From what I've seen of Male Viera they have a range similar to male Midlander where they can look effeminate but also manly. But that doesn't mean that they're trying to make both genders look the same physically. As such the hair shouldn't exclusively be forced to unisex.
It can go either way depending on how the culture is written. If they take on such strict gender roles then it makes sense if they also deliberately differ in how they present themselves, especially if they don't naturally look that different. On the other hand there doesn't seem to be a strong distinction from the hairstyles we've seen so far.
I'm going to sound SO much like Theodric here, but... the hairstyles we've seen so far don't look all that "masculine" as is.
Don't get me wrong, they're very pretty and most of them I can totally see in bishonen-type characters, but I think only the two shorter ones I'd call "classically masculine", MAYBE the helmeted one as it gives me a Basch-type feel to it, for some reason.
Does this mean they WILL be unisex? I'm still inclined to believe no and that they're male exclusive, partly because I want to be pleasantly surprised if they're actually unlocked. Although without getting into a whoooole other side-note about the changing fashions in male hairstyles (which would be moot considering tribal hairstyles closer to the Viera lore would be a whole different beast AND different from what we've seen), I'll say that if they DO end up being gender-locked, at least I like most of them unlike the 3 (bangs included) I rotate between on female Viera.
...though now that I put the idea in my head I'd LOVE some tribal hairstyles on male Viera: dreadlocks, braided designs, mohawks...
I just hope they get good male hairstyles. This expansion hasn’t been good in terms of that so...really hope theirs aren’t overtly feminine and we get a nice mix at the very least.
Tbh I don't have high hopes for male Viera. From what was shown in the trailer, I have absolutely no desire to play them. I still hope there will be at least 1 masculine looking face (the trailer faces were all so feminine/ androgynous) and 1 masculine hairstyle (the trailer hairstyles looked just like female hairstyles beeing sold as unisex) and maybe they'll even add some facial hair options. I'll check them out in the character creator once they are available but I kinda doubt there will be any non-androgynous and therefore interesting options for me.
Meanwhile... I'll just keep dreaming:

I'm kind of in the vein where i'm tired of seeing the overtly anime protagonist hairstyles and want something a little more down to earth. It seems male viera have a couple in this capacity from the ones shown. Though a bit longer. I'd like some shorter styles too.
