There was a nice little marketing blip in there for FFXIV, yay for SE. (Cutscene purty graphics, dev compliment, etc).

This is nothing new. Bellular has been doing that for years because he just repeats what the popular sentiment is back to the playerbase. He is the embodiment of an echo chamber. He admitted as much in his videos about creating content for YouTube. Right now the zeitgeist is that FFXIV is good and WoW is declining, so that's what he's talking about.

I'm guessing Bellular was able to hold out longer simply due to having an interest in that high-end activity with a team of people he enjoyed playing with, but even then it was just a matter of time.

Asmongold, Growl, MethodSco, LimitMax, Bageera, TradeChat, Talie and Evitel, Kalani, and Preach all played it. And apart from those who have only ever played WoW to raid, nope... not really; their play wasn't much reduced to mere raid logging.

Bell himself played BfA, although far less than in Legion due to work constraints (thus dropping most raid content), but felt his level of play was too limited to give him a sufficiently fair or comprehensive view of the game's problems, causing him instead to attempt to compile and trace out other community opinions while trying to figure out why the points later criticized were created. ...Here's hoping he'll have at least as much sense in regard to XIV, once he's done fixating on XIV's counterpoints to WoW's most obvious problems.

I don't really watch Twitch, so I never heard of Bellular until I came back to FFXIV and these clips started popping up in my YouTube recommendations. I have to say, I like the guy's attitude and way of expressing himself. He seems mature enough to be able to say what he likes about FFXIV, while his criticisms are fair and delivered with a level head. He's said he's not going to stream FFXIV so that he can just enjoy the game at his own pace, but rather put out progress videos later so he can talk about his experiences and how things are going. I think that's a great approach, and is something I'd actually watch.

By contrast, I've only seen brief bits of Asmongold and I can't stand the guy. He just seems so phony, as if every one of his reactions is cranked up to 11 on purpose. There was this one video where the first time he saw Viera, he pretended like he couldn't believe it and it was just the most crazy thing he'd ever seen. I'm not sure exactly what it was that set him off, either the sexy starter outfit or the bunny ears, but I was just like: "I don't feel like I'm watching a real human being anymore, this guy is a reaction bot desperately hoping to be clipped or become a meme." Aside from that, I honestly don't think he would like FFXIV at all. It's not for him. He hates the characters design, and I don't think he has the patience for a story-focused game like this.

This. One point I brought up in his comment section is that he only feel this way about the game its new to him. I'm pretty new to wow and play whenever i have time/get bored with FF. There is a shit ton of content for me to do in wow and collect. Same way there is a ton of content for someone new to FF.

WoW won't even kill itself. It's got too large of a loyal fanbase for it to die because of content changes. They might continue to lose more players but the numbers would never drop to a critical level.

Activision, on the other hand, could kill WoW if they decide a few hundred thousand subscribers (still more than some MMOs have) aren't worth keeping the servers running.

Do a lot of us hate what WoW became and losing what it had been? Sure. But it's not a reason to be looking for the game to die so those who do enjoy what it evolved into lose their game.
