Forced? When did wanting something become being forced?
Forced? When did wanting something become being forced?
OCD is a mental illness that can impact your quality of life.
For example, I have OCD and I can't leave home until I have locked, unlocked, locked, and unlocked my front door 30 - 50 times to make sure it is locked. Or I keep on switching the light on and off 50-100 times just to feel content that it is 100% switched off.
When you go to work you couldn't stop thinking about whether you have switched off your stove/oven even though you remember doing it a ton of times, and in return, it impacted your work performances.
You spent almost an hour parking your car because you're so stressed that it is not parked correctly.
Or you're so distressed when you're 200 miles away from home because you think you "might" have forgotten to do something before leaving, and the only way to calm down is to drive 200 miles back to your house and when you're happy everything is ok, you drive 200 miles back to wherever you were.
Being a neat freak or like to complete things are not OCD. OCD needs to be diagnosed by a medical professional and be medicated with anti-depressants and/or do CBT/cognitive psychotherapy.
Please don't insult people with OCD like that.

Well, since this thread just came up...
That's right. It's a reward for existing customers. Tell your friends to start playing now rather than later.
You've already decided to get a more expensive version of the game package, but you refuse to purchase it even a day earlier?Even I who is playing right now feel forced to preorder just to make sure I can get the Wind-up Palom since I already decided to get the digital collector's edition for the mount.
Then you're already screwed because certain minions are not available any more, like the Baby Gremlin minion, the Wind-up Red Mage minion, the Chocobo Chick Courier minion, the Caith Sith Doll minion, and potentially others, like those that came with certain merchandise purchase.
So new players should come in knowing that about the game, and if they have issues about not having both minions in their collection, then don't buy the collector's edition.
Even I, who did preorder the past two expansions, lost those rewards when I started over on a new account last year. The rewards are there to incentivize early purchase before the expansion officially launches, not for potential new players who can read reviews or ask friends/strangers on the internet who are currently playing whether they should also play the game and buy the expansion after it has come out.
You're missing the issue here. If you buy the Collectors Edition for Endwalker after November, you'll forever be stuck with only Palom. If you preorder Endwalker but not buy the Collectors Edition, you'll be stuck with only Porom. Even if you're not an extreme minion completionist having only one of the twins is a deliberate attempt to get you to both preorder and get the Collector's Edition. If you have even mild OCD you're forced to pay $60 early before reviews for the game come out. That is the issue here.Well, since this thread just came up...

A "minion completionist" doesn't have to consider reviews before buying an expansion to an ongoing game with a linear structure like FFXIV where you're forced to go through each expansion unless you buy a boost for each character. Why are you trying to be a "completionist" in a game that you're not sure after 8 years and 3 expansion that you will continue to play? You're missing the issue here. The fact is you have an informed decision to make. At worst, you can always put the minion you got in a retainer and never use it if you cannot get both.
You can always get collectors afterwords for, at the end of the day, the exact same price as you'd get it now. Then again I'm actually biting your low quality bait. You're missing the issue here. ARR's pre-order yes.
Yes, it is; that's how marketing works. I realize that probably sounds harsh, but as has been pointed out in this thread already, SE is a business, and to continue being in business, they need money. So since you (and I) are their customer already, they're going to do everything they can to get you to part with more of your money, since they know you probably already like their products. It's less of a challenge to get any of us that are already subscribers and following this information to give them more money than it is to convince a totally new person to start giving them any money, with no previous buy-in to any SE games/franchises/merch. So of course they're going to try the most tantalizing marketing techniques they can think of to encourage that outcome.
FFIV is my favorite Final Fantasy - Palom and Porom's storyline was probably one of the formative experiences of my video game youth - so I understand the frustration for people who either can't preorder the Collector's Edition for some reason or who come in after the fact and don't get this, I do. But this is pretty standard video game marketing stuff, at this point. If I were in either one of those aforementioned camps of people and found out I couldn't get this minion, I'd be disappointed but I'd understand the circumstance and move on with my life. It wouldn't keep me up at night or anything.
...Maybe I'm just old lol. Completionist issues used to be a problem for me, in games, but particularly in MMO's when it's limited time stuff like this that is "out of your control," I feel like you have to kind of learn to live with it, if you're going to continue to play this genre. There's more important things to focus your time and energy on, even inside of this very game.
And who knows? Maybe somewhere down the line, if they decide this is going to bring in BOKU BUCK$$$$ for them, they may put it on the cash shop. It's not entirely outside the realm of possibility.
Even assuming you already have every other minion in the game (well done!) any inkling of 'completionist' in you means that you will for certain be buying Endwalker anyway... so why would you not preorder?
This isn't like new game releases, where marketting gets people to preorder an unfinished, unseen product. This is a mandatory expansion to an ongoing MMO. You don't have a choice. If you want to play FFXIV, then you're going to buy Endwalker.
What else are you going to do? Hang out in Eulmore at level 80 for the next 5 years?
