It will probably help if you focus on just one "zone" for a time and switch it up as needed. Each area drops a different relic item, as do their respective CEs. And in my opinion the mettle gains between the 3 are a difference of 30-40k, so that shouldn't slow you down that much. You are getting 0 if you aren't making it to the skirmishes.
