The players who frequent the housing discords that share when plots become available. They don't use the flippers.
The "current" landscape of 2021 is the same landscape the NA worlds have had for the last 2 years, short of a few week period when wards were added in 5.1 and SE used a private purchase moratorium.
It's partly because of desperate players like you willing to pay anything that the flippers exist. Fortunately, the flippers can't get their hands on every property so patient players still get a chance at normal market prices.

Housing, the actual savage content of XIV.Right, well for those of us without bots or top of the line PCs, just telling us to wait for a 1% chance or less to get a large during the blue moon they put in new ones in doesn't stop people from buying from flippers during the rest of the time. XD It doesn't stop people from wanting larges and sellers know that. I couldn't even get a medium at plot price during the last housing demo because they were all gone just as quick, only to be sold at 5x the price later that day.
So again, I would like to know who recently has been able to pay plot price for a large. Not talking about when Shiro launched, not talking about October. I'm talking about current landscape of 2021.

So what if its not being used for 6 months. You can go into literally any housing ward and see big empty houses that never get used. The owner might step inside once a month to reset the timer and thats it. The rest of the time it just sits there empty. So how is it really any differentWhile I can appreciate the thought of paying for a lease period in ventures, this still does not address the fact you are occupying for something, as you gave the example, of 6 months, for something you have no intention of using. Just no. They've designed this awful system and only having access to what you pay for, month to month with a subscription, is fair.
A leasing system of some form might actually free up a good number of those dorment plots as it becomes senseless continuously pay a lease on something you never make use of. Where as now ypu just hold on to it because why not... or maybe one day...
The only thing they'd need to do is put a cap on it. So you couldn't just bang out 10 years of lease in one go or something crazy. But 6 months roughly 1 patch cycle seems both fair and reasonable. And has a decent amount of flexibility.
And it better fits yoshis comments and promises regarding the system in general. A lease is still a compromise butbits a vastly improved one to the current system as its effectively only compromising one of yoshisnstand points and not 2.

Technically, current technology allows evolutive housing for everyone, but it remains costly. Something faisible, what Islands could be :
Instancied housing
Evolutive housing - both size of plot and size of house
No house loss
But we have to assume they should put some restrictions to keep datas under control :
One plot by FC
One plot by "Family" (One family = one server)
What housing could become and that would be fantastic : evolutive housing where you can add floors and rooms. What? Sims-like? YEAH! We all know : Glamour and Housing are the real endgame :-p
EDIT : When we see what Swords of Legends will offer as housing, really, it exists a room to improve FFXIV housing. Islands would be the perfect opportunity.

Normality is just an average. I'm the weird, you're the bizarre.

- Am/was in those discords for months. Never saw anything other than wild smalls get posted outside of demo day. Ironically enough the same discords also post flipper advertisements....but that's a whole other story. The players who frequent the housing discords that share when plots become available. It's literally not about being patient. If you want to wait months/years for a plot, that's entirely your choice. Based on what I've seen over the past year, if you want ANYTHING other than smalls (at least in my server, I'm very well aware that other servers have way different housing situations) you had to get extremely lucky during demolition day or buy one from a flipper. Just putting this out there, maybe the reason I don't ever see anything other than smalls wild is because people know they can sell them for 4-5x what they're worth?

Maybe. Its also possible that the people who were lucky enough and/or put in the work to get mediums and larges are less likely to lose them? And the fact that 70% of all houses are smalls is going to tilt the average in that direction regardless.
