When it comes to Sharlayan, I'm inclined to believe that there's more going on behind the scenes than is immediately apparently. I don't particularly care about shaming or humbling individual nations for going their own way or doing things in a less than perfect manner. I also think fantasy settings are inherently more intriguing when every nation is not reading from the same book with minimal differences in opinion.

Something will probably go awry, perhaps due to treachery from within - or a well meaning figure somehow screwing up. Though I'm not going to read too much into things just yet given how we only have a couple of lines of dialogue to go on from the expansion's cinematic. Quite often such things are framed deceptively and there's plenty of twists and turns that take things in unexpected directions - such as the reveal of Amaurot back in Shadowbringers.

I am curious to whether Sharlayan or Thavnair will have a significant population of Viera or Hrothgar. We know they seem to have Au Ra, and we know there have been significant portions of Hrothgar and Viera displaced from their original homelands for a while because of the Empire.

It doesn't seem like Old Sharlayan demands much of those seeking to live/learn there (Aside from perhaps a heavy tuition fee).

I'd imagine there's probably a party of founding fathers who are privy to knowledge that is otherwise not shared with the public, though, which makes me wonder if they intend to shelter the entire populace from the Final Days, or if there's an elite few who are included in that number.

That we know of. Perhaps they've been there for a lot longer, shielded from the various Calamities using something hidden underneath them. Perhaps this is also why they think they'll be safe from this one? Perhaps they have been there since the Sundering, and thanks to knowledge from Hydaelyn, created a ship or had access to one, that has shielded them to every Calamity until now. For Wind, Thunder, Fire, and Ice, it was kept far below ground. But for Earth and Water, it was floating in the air.

Do you think any empire like the Allagans would leave them alone if they realized they basically had the power of "gods" at their disposal? It'd be a lightning rod drawing every power hungry nation right to their doorstep to attempt to take it.

That reminds me that the fellow they sent after the AST trainer for trying to spread knowledge of their version of astrology knew actual time magicks which we've otherwise only seen used by Ascians.

It really wouldn't surprise me if they've been hording a huge trove of knowledge from the time of the Ancients that they and their forefathers have been amassing since shortly after the Sundering while things were still largely intact.
