Midlander are the average, both male and female. Roe and Au Ra are outliers, elezen would be tall. This chart should look more like this (my edit):



If we are going to argue "representation", short males are actually the ones who are underrepresented in this game.

But male Miqo'te and male Midlander are the two most played male races. Check the census for any given server. They may be the two shortest male races after Lalafell, but they are by far the most popular of the males.

Just like how female Au Ra and female Miqo'te, also the two shortest female races after Lalafell, are the most popular.

If you look at the female version of that chart, you'll notice that most female races are actually on the taller side too. And yet the two shortest ones are the most popular. We see tons of Au Ra and Miqo'te girls, but very few of the rest.

So while the four most popular race choices (male Midlander, male and female Miqo'te, and female Au Ra) may be outsized by the majority of the other races, they are by no means underrepresented by the playerbase. They are overrepresented actually.

If they made male Viera short, we'd see a lot of similarly built male characters. Male Viera at that point would be Miqo'te with bunny ears, just like how people pointed out that female Au Ra was Miqo'te with lizard horns and scales.

Now, if we want to argue the playerbase analytics, Male viera even being a couple inches shorter than a female, would still be considered "tall", or "very tall" then in comparison to the majority of the playerbase. At max height.
