Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Anyone know when the next live letter might be to discuss expansion stuff? We have 6 months and I can understand they want to hold some things for later events. i know most of us were hoping for more 6.0 last night but alas wasn't to be.

i'm still somewhat optimistic we'll get something but they sure don't understand how many of us have waited for news and keeping that for potentially later is just sad. Throw us a bone already.

It's already being spun as being a good thing to first release male Viera and female Hrothgar and then add something. In the big picture it might look good, but for people who play Viera and Hrothgar now the reality is that we might be looking at 4+ years by that time. I don't think that's a good thing at all.

But I admire your optimism and hope you're right.

I'm quite sure that we will probably get something at some point in 6.x for viera, as they would want to boost fantasia sales and viera numbers with male viera released, and as for hrotgar I'm kind of optimistic the same will happen with female hrot's release sometime in the future, what Im really surprised about is that in the QnA no one asked about it, wonder if they'll do so in an interview

i have a male Hrothgar who is like level 75 and in Greatwood who hasn't been getting much love lately just been to busy with my other alts. I have way too many of them. i'm considering a fantasia pot for him when male viera arrive just to have fun with them. I really want to see what the female hroth's are going to look like and hope at least we'll get some artwork or models for them before 6.0. Maybe an in game NPC.

why would you even bother making male viera when it's going to be restricted ...
on the other hand i am sure these few coming days they will be making so much profit out of all the fantasias viera/hrothgar players will be buying

Is that a max or minimum height fem viera?

We don't know.
That said, the guy's knees when it stands next to the bed seem to be on about the same height as my character's, who's 160cm tall, making Viera from Ishgard inn about 160-165 cm tall. I wouldn't make any conclusions from that as it's a trailer and it's hard to judge even when trying to get same angles since it's not guaranteed that assets in trailer are accurate, but there is a chance that male Viera will be shorter than females or same height as they are.

I must not see many max height male miqote. Most the ones I run into are pretty small. I thought the main reason people wanted male viera was to have a tall elegant male option that wasn’t elezen or Au Ra, not to create another version of male miqote. I remember people being upset because many people wanted female viera to be smaller or have a smaller version available. The argument was, these players that wanted smaller viera, should just play miqote because viera are meant to only be tall. After all that to have male viera be miqote size isn’t right or fair to the people who wanted smaller female viera.

Most people here know viera lore would dictate that viera males be smaller than females - just like bunnies IRL.

Not short. I don’t like the option to be mid height denied and given to male viera when it was specifically asked for viera females and denied. I happen to play tall characters like night elves in WoW and Altmer in ESO. I also hate the difference between Au Ra male and female. Why repeat the same mistakes. It’s irritating.

Not everyone views the au ra height difference as a mistake. I found that many people's problem with female au ra isn't necessarily the height all the time, it's that they just don't look fierce. The men do and in the concept art of the women they also did. But in the final product the men remained looking fierce and the women...look mostly harmless, lol. It's not just their height, it's their demeanor and their faces. Only one face could qualify as fierce, which is a shame.

I actually like that there are races with more obvious sexual dimorphism than just "here is the same thing but a bit shorter/taller". I would like if the female au ra looked less gentle but their height doesn't bother me much. And if male viera do turn out to be noticeably shorter than the women I'll be fine with it.

As for the live letter...

Well SE had said the expansion would come in in Fall, so I expected it to be a lot sooner than the latter half of November so with this in mind it's not surprising that not a lot about the expansion was revealed which means...gotta wait even longer to hear about any updates relating to the new races. Sigh. Well at least we have male viera and hrothgar ladies confirmed so that has given me a spark of hope that something will be done about the head customisation restrictions.

Disappointed that nothing was said about hair, but I am excited for male viera so it's not as bad as it could have been.

100%. It's depressing. Viera is the race for Rhana. I can't change her, because then she wouldn't be the WoL any more. I just want her to have something different.

I really do want to switch back, but reality kicks in.. Viera/hrothgar are second-class races.

I'm pretty numb to it by now, but it's still disappointing.

When they asked us to "please wait a little bit longer" they cited (surprise!) resources as the reason it's taking longer, shame our hairstyles don't seem to grow in the cabbage patch out back like the hairstyles for everyone else do.

Limited races are great for fantasia sales! Players switching to and from them. Hrothgar just to get their second hairstyle! Imagine if females have to as well!

If male viera are as short as miqo'te, what's the point? Hopefully the height range is larger. Sure, they are a bit better looking than male miqo'te, but is it worth the limitations? Male miqo'te can wear hats and have access to all added hair.
