tbf, the HW PLD quests were.... not that good... I can see why they moved away from them.

Granted, you COULD make PLD quests good, I don't know why they just don't.

To be fair, most job quests are some of the worst quests in the game, imo drk was the only one that was in any way good. The specially bad ones almost involve children like rdm and con/whm (brd excluded which has no kids but is by far the worst of the worst). No idea why but SE has yet to write a non-annoying child character that has more than a one off appearance. That girl from the con/whm quests...I just wanted to toss her off a cliff.

Even the role quests were so incredibly dull compared to the rest of the game, I didn't feel they really have the rest of Ardbert's crew justice. The only real good one was the bonus quests you got from completing them all. But I think that is likely due to the job quests just being rushed. I mean they don't want to take up too much of ppls time with these mandatory quests so they cut a whole lot of story telling corners which makes them fall flat.

If there's a Hingashi proper expansion, he's going to be a Ninja (because Samurai was already done). If there's a New World expansion, he's going to be a Machinist (Cowboys reference and America loves guns). If there's a Meracydia expansion, he's going to be the new Boomerang job because Meracydia is Australia

Idk, I thought the Ninja questline was good up to 50, sort of a miss for 51-60, and then good again with 61 to 70. Karasu is so charming. Oboro is a very lovable dumb ass.

I also really enjoyed the AST quests. The guild leader in Ishgard is hilarious throughout.

Lancer and DRG quests were pretty good. Still get pretty jazzed when I run into Foulques in POTD.

I find most quests for jobs were either good throughout or slumped in the 51-60 range.

PLD though... imho, it's like 1 to 30 with GLA was great. Then 30~60 for PLD was just impossible for me to get invested in. DRK had good story and WAR at least had intrigue. PLD was like, "Oh hey, Sultansworn this, Sultansworn that. Sacred treasure sword this, sacred treasure sword that." Very bland. Got good again with the sword tournament for 61+.

I'd have to view them again to confirm, but PLD probably has the worst job quests in the game. I struggle to think of any that I don't enjoy for the most part, other than PLD's.

The WAR quests get a little old, just because Curious Gorge keeps getting his progress reset every time for basically no reason other than a running gag.

I know some other job quest chains have brought back class npcs. Like the pugilist npcs in the monk quests in SB, and rogue npcs making appearances in NIN quests. But generally these are still very much monk/ninja quests.

The SB quests were really much more gladiator quests than they were paladin quests. Same with the level 80 quest. It wasn't just gladiator quests coming back to make a cameo. It was all about them. So IMO there's a bit of a difference.

It's a shame. The ARR pld quests were nothing special but not all that bad. Then HW had a confusing convoluted story that backtracked on the lesson from the ARR quests and then that was it really. No quests getting to be a knight errant going around doing good or being a beacon of hope protecting the downtrodden etc. A missed opportunity IMO.

It's a badass dude in cool armor is impressive at a glance and does a good job at communicating "fantasy setting!". You'll notice that in Stormblood they used Zenos on more promotional Material than Samurai because Zenos was more visually impressive than a robed man with a Katana at a glance. Then Samurai was more used than Monk because Monk was a red herring and they weren't ready to reveal Samurai as the real poster job yet a samurai is more visually impressive than a martial artist at a glance as well. ARR also had Gaius and Warrior, both armored combatants, Heavensward had Dragoon, and Shadowbringers had Dark Knight.

Other than that though it works on a thematic level. Endwalkers villains are the Telephoroi/Garleans, Zodiark, and the Ascian remnants. The Telephoroi are an evil technological expansionist empire on the attack with a red band black color scheme. Zodiark is an evil god representing darkness, and the Ascians are his evil cult. Paladin is pretty much the antithesis of all of these to varying degrees. Visually it's all heroic colors, Gold, Blue, and Silver/White. Its the stalwart defender instead of the attack. Its magical instead of technological. It's holy instead of dark aligned. Paladin pretty much hits every note that you want it to for the opposite reason that Dark Knight was such a good choice for Shadowbringers.

Neither Zodiark or the Ascians - barring, Fandaniel who has a separate agenda - are 'evil'. I thought Shadowbringers did a pretty good job at showing that it was all very much a matter of perspective and that they were simply fighting to protect and defend their loved ones in the face of tragedy.
