I'm also just poking fun, because the situation is kind of hilarious when you think about it. SE seems to be slacking when it comes to modeling hats these days!
I think the thing that is particularly frustrating with Miqo'te hats is that there is no apparent technical reason for doing so. It seems to be purely a corner-cutting exercise for a race that used to get hats with visible ears and now does not.
On top of which, they have to go to the same effort of modifying a hat whether they put ear socks in the right place or the wrong place, and it is so very often wrong.
There is only one race that will wear that modified hat. There is only one size and shape that their ears can be. How hard is it to check where the ears should be placed on the character model?

Huh... is that how their ears work?I think the thing is that the ears don't just "clip through" - they're slightly disconnected from the head with the gap normally covered by the hair, so hats need to line up with the bottom edge of the ears to look right.
It's possible they just want to skip out on whatever effort is needed to get that right.
No wonder they don't get any bald "haircuts."
I also kinda imagine trying to fit into a lot of the sock'd headgear would actually be a bit painful. At least the cat ears are up top and have the whole head space to wiggle into the socks. Elf ears, for some of the gear, would clearly have to first pass through the much more narrow neck opening before they make it into the sock.
Logistically, I just don't think the ear socks ever actually really work for Elezen.
I also physically cringe seeing the metal ear "protectors". Anything hits one of those and you just burst an ear drum!!I also kinda imagine trying to fit into a lot of the sock'd headgear would actually be a bit painful. Yeah - there were some screenshots posted on a thread a while ago of Miqo'te characters without a hairstyle equipped. You can see it's just the floating inner ear that's part of the base model, with the fur and most of the actual ear shape being part of the hairstyle (which adds up with some styles putting highlights or dark tips on the ears).
Even if the ears were fully attached to the head, adapting a bald style for them would be odd. Do you leave fur on the ears? Is it going to look dreadful on them either way?
That too. I think metal helmets might tend to hinge together rather than just being pulled off, but even so the tight-fitting ear covers seem impractical on several levels.I also kinda imagine trying to fit into a lot of the sock'd headgear would actually be a bit painful. I feel like realistically you'd need more of a wide pyramid or fin shape to encase the ears without matching the shape of them. Or perhaps just wear some padding underneath the helmet that flattens the ears against the head as much as possible.

Thank you for that link ~
I figured it would just look something like those hairless cats.
