False. If you walk up to a person of color and call them the N word you can and most likely will be charged with something. It may only be a misdemeanor and forced community service, but hate speech is NOT protected by the 1st amendment.
Well it is not 100% false "hate speech" is not a legal term. Also while no legal expert I do think one could make an argument that if the comments are not a direct face-to-face obesities or harmful speech that is not a threat could be argued protected under free speech.
I do know the supreme court has deemed most what people would consider hate speech not protected but I do think the cases of that ruling were cases of direct insults or conflict.
So in your case it would be charged with someone, and maybe if the person was shouting general things like N word they could be charged with public disobedience or disturbance but doubt it would be a direct charge for what they said.

Yeah, it's a complicated issue to say the least.Well it is not 100% false "hate speech" is not a legal term. While it is a slippery slope most if not all respectable business would not tolerate any semblance of it. I've reported racism and derogatory speech aimed at general types of people. SE's inaction and/or refusal to acknowledge the situation is only hurting them. This is odd since when I reported the events I encountered I had a GM response faster than a healer que.Well it is not 100% false "hate speech" is not a legal term. Well I mean as a business you do not have to respect free speech per-se it is also weird but depending on the context you are free to enforce certain standards. While it is a slippery slope most if not all respectable business would not tolerate any semblance of it. Don't try to de-rail the point. You know what I'm going for. Racial Slurs and other derogatory words and phrases only cause trouble and inflict pain. This series of events having been left unaddressed for as long as it has is a failure on SE's part.
Not trying to derail the point was just saying what you said before. I was in overall agreement with your general post.
Directing such an insult towards a person directly would be an assault (as opposed to assault and battery) and would be a hate crime since a crime based on race. This person, though despicable, doesn't seem to be directly attacking any person(s). Many of the filth he posts seems to be blanket insults and opinion. Were he to directly attack a specific person or FC/group of people in game by name then yes, that may be perceived as a hate crime and a federal one, at that, since taking place over interstate commerce.
They have been doing targeted harrassment. I myself had witnessed them doing the following:Directing such an insult towards a person directly would be an assault (as opposed to assault and battery) and would be a hate crime since a crime based on race. 1. Naming their alts after specific mentors (often those who manage to kick them). If someone who kicked them was named Onetwo Hello* they'd make an alt named Onetwo Hellwiggs*.
2. Personalising their spam to attack specific mentors (again, often those who manage to kick them), and these attacks included not only insulting said mentor with slurs, but even going "(mentor) is the spammer!"
3. Doing both of the above at once.
I would post chat logs, but I imagine that would get me forum-banned if uncensored and, if censored, would not actually demonstrate my point.
*Not actual player names (that I know of)
The thing is, new players could search Google for answers, but let's be real ... so many are just lazy. Even my husband is. He would rather pester people for an answer instead of asking me or looking it up.
