I do the same, and its because I dont take none EX/Savage seriously anymore, its brainded content and requires no real attention and investment to get through

As for the older stuff not being worth doing, I don't know why people always seem to have the mentality that old=bad. I hear this from a lot of people in the game. "Don't waste your time doing it, it's old and outdated." Can't old be fun? Sure the current stuff is 'shiny and new' and you get to use all your super good skills, but it does not mean the older stuff still can't give you a workout and make you learn how to do more with less skills available.
Healers especially. People bitch about healing being so boring with the current stuff, and of course it is when you have so many instant heals now that do all the work leaving you to just two button DPS. Try doing something older MINE from ARR or Heavensward, where you have to rely on your GCD's and manage that MP to make sure you have it when it is REALLY needed. Healing ain't boring in older MINE level content honey, it will give you a healing workout.
As for the old stuff being nerfed, I don't believe Coils ever was, which is one of the reasons it is never run by people. (well, besides the 'old' part) Even synced with Echo they can be hard to do, so they are certainly not a 'cakewalk', especially on MINE level. Sure the changes in job skills might have made it slightly easier, but it balances out mostly with the loss of old skills that helped with the older stuff.
Being good at a game, especially with a game as broad as this one, with fight designs being as inexhaustible as they even, be it at any level. Just makes it come down to an experiential thing more than anything else. Or just being an adept problem solver.
The more you practice a fight, the better you'll get at the fight, the more consistent you'll be with the fight, and you eventually clear the encounter. Anyone can clear any given encounter in the game given time. Doesn't make them good at the game. There's scarce a few people that are genuinely good at this game. A lot of other people are just good at following instructions and guides.
You are probably really good at replaying fights and building a strategy to execute over and over, rather than thinking on the fly.
Honestly I can be the exact same. Some days I can be on it and absolutely amazing. I beat coil s back in ARR. Dabled in Savage in 3.0 and less so in 4.0 and I can be a solid player with a solid grasp of everything.
Other days I'm not. Just last night I found myself dying alot in the tower to mechanics I know and understand but for some reason I mess them up. Oh black lines stand behind a white block.... i know that's wrong but my brain says do it anyway cos it's not paying attention.
The other thing I think is the level of content. Dungeons are incredible dumbed down and easy.. the first rub I did of pagalthan for example. Didn't occur to anyone you could tether those lightning markers to the posts so we all just sat there eating them and had zero issues. When content is that forgiving you tend to switch off. Which is where the old joke about paying more attention to netflix than what's happening in game comes from.
I'd say I'm pretty average maybe even mediocre these days. The button bashing bores the shit out of me. Especially when it never changes. Same rotation all day every day no matter what boss... boring.
Incorrect. Second Coil was nerfed. Blighted Bouquet no longer one shot kills if you act during its animation. The petrification in Turn 7 also no longer results in instant death if you get hit while petrified. I think they are still unnerfed in its Savage version, but those fights have many other differences. As for the older stuff not being worth doing, I don't know why people always seem to have the mentality that old=bad. Also Twintania was nerfed and the arena changed several times in Turn 5. Twister hit detection was altered and all that jazz.
I can't remember anything else getting nerfed, but those are the most striking examples. And they're oodles and boodles easier nowadays, even at minimum iLvl, because the potencies we have these days are insane compared to back then, along with having Direct hits. For reference, when Coils were new in 2.0, DRG's hardest hitting attack was Full Thrust at a flat 300 potency. Today's Full Thrust potency is 540. Basically, a single DRG nowadays is worth almost two DRGs from when Coil was current.
That doesn't make it effortless, but there are more drastic potency differences to put up to task with all of the different jobs you can bring too. All tanks have more mitigation and damage at that level range too than they ever did when it was current content.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
I'll just go ahead and say it but after doing a bit of research, you are not a good player, at all. But that's okay! We can all improve
Edit: Just noticed that. Yes, I agree, while it's perfectly fine to mess up on Normal content (people aren't machines and even Ultimate legends will slip up and die to the silliest things all the time, but that certainly doesn't mean they suck) there's definitely a lot of room for improvement for the OP. I don't mean that in a judgmental way, but since they asked it's only fair to point out they have a lot of mistakes and I'm sure people would be happy to help if they wanted to improve their gameplay.

Just gonna point out the obvious, you're not going to fix your problem if you ignore it or shy away from it. I was terrified of healing but really wanted to do it, so I forced myself to get over my healing anxiety and put in the effort to get better. Same principle applies for getting better at basic mechanics in dungeons. Practice and pay attention to what you're doing. You'll get better over time. And actually, because I tend to be bad at them, it makes me not even want to DO any roulettes which involve them unless I really need to farm poetics. Because of this it is likely I will forget how the bosses work when I see them many months later, especially the higher level dungeons.
Or can just give up and admit defeat from roulettes. Your choice at the end of the day.
Would not say you are good at ‘harder” content just because you cleared “harder” content. Getting the clear in itself does not mean you are good at it a lot more goes into it. So ask yourself while digging deep do you really think you are a good player?Recently I achieved the goal of clearing every one of the Coils raids, T1 through T13, at Minimum I-level and no echo. For those who have done the Coils raids MINE, you know how hard this is to achieve and is not an easy feat.
I have also done most of the 50 ex' primals MINE, and all of the 60 and 70 EX primals MINE level. (yes, even Thordan and Shinryu) Am currently working on the 80 EX ones MINE.
And yet, if I do many of the dungeon roulettes, I tend to totally, totally suck in them for some reason. Seriously, I screw up the boss fights and tend to die lots. My friends usually bet on if and when I will die in a dungeon instance.
If you have done any coils content, especially MINE you know you cannot really be carried, especially in stuff like Nael or Bahamut. You need to know your stuff, know mechanics, and know your role decently enough to get the clear. You don't and people die and the party wipes. So I am not an idiot at this. I went though every fight, got the clear legitimately, and in many of the fights did not even die at all on the clear run.
Yet if you are with me in a dungeon I am sometimes soooo bad at it that you would call me a noob who has no idea how to play the game and needs to 'git good'.
It's really so puzzling at times.I am really kind of curious to know if anyone else is like that. Good at hard stuff, bad at 'easy' stuff for some reason.
