I am not diagnosed with epilepsy, but I would say at most some of the visials have triggered my motion sickness, espcially with Red Girl, but this also happened with Neir Automata as well. Nothing major to the point its unplayable, but it happens from time to time

I myself haven't had any issues running this raid, but during my first run I said to myself on multiple occasions, "this could be a problem for some people." I think it was mostly during Red Girl, where the screen is filled with static abruptly.

It could be you just need a slightly different set-up, like has been mentioned. Although, worst case scenario, if you or anyone else discovers you have PSE, moving your screen isn't going to help especially. During my seizures, I have been found moving from one side of a room to another, ending with my face literally pressed up against the monitor or tv and just being generally unnerving, before the predictable falling down and seizing. Have been injured lots by this. Even when feeling the oncoming seizure, closing my eyes would not help (far too late). Some people cover one eye, however, and find that works. It never has for me, however, so I can't personally vouch for it. I do know I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. All of that said, the old standard was to keep at least six feet away from the light source, but that was for older style monitors and TVs. Those were incredibly evil.
I've actually done the "covering one eye" thing instinctively when seeing lots of particle effects in this game. I'll bring it up with my eye doctor when I go in for my annual myopathy exam, I didn't know that could be associated with this sort of thing. Learning many new things this good morning.

I looked up blue-light-filter glasses, the fancy prescription ones are too expensive. But Amazon has some chunky ones that will fit over my everyday glasses so I went ahead and ordered those. Been thinking about getting them for a while but this post cemented it. Thanks for writing this all up.

I wish we knew more about what exactly gets back to the devs. There's no way for every day players to forward things to Square Enix and I worry that they won't do anything about it unless something really drastic happens. I hate the idea that we're reliant on Polygon or Kotaku writing splashy articles to get something done. But that's borrowing trouble I guess, should give it longer than a few hours, lol.

Now this is troubling. I was thinking of checking out Nier games but if Yoko Taro just puts these visuals into his games regularly then I don't want to play them, it wouldn't be worth it.

    Also someone who gets migraines

In my job I happen to be involved with design (UI/UX) discussions/reviews, it took just one Youtube video for me to "nope" out of this raid.

I love the creativity, I can understand that people would like the crossover aspect - personally I don't like it at all- however there are way, way too many effects being thrown at the screen for me, for too long, using really bad contrast. Way too easy to trigger fatigue, headaches, etc. Not what i would consider "fun".

I don't have epilepsy but I do have problems with spatial awareness (I don't have good depth perception) and with those pixeled scattered effects on top of everything else that raid looks like a whole lot of nope to me.

I had no problem with it, but I've never suffered from this condition. I think that Square Enix should help those experiencing a problem with it by allowing them to disable it from coming up in their roulette.

As the community is getting older and more accessible for everyone getting online (technology). That means more and more people joining the game more than ever in pandemic.

I think SE needs to work on this panel. Needs to improve more to support color blinds, hearing loss, epilepsy problems.

I had issues, but mostly because parts of that raid absolutely triggered my fear of heights. It's not the same as dealing with epileptic issues, but there are things in there that bug a *lot* of people, I imagine.

Know it may not be a fix for everyone but I use to suffer heavily from gaming motion sickness so much FPS were unplayable. It has gotten better with an ultra wide and with steady FPS I can play games I once was unable to touch.

I've had photo induced seizures since I was in middle school (funnily enough, the ones in front of a computer have all been in front of word processing software vs video games) but I haven't experienced anything at a frequency in the Tower that would have triggered mine. My twin and I both have them, so LED monitors were pretty much a much have as soon as they became affordable since the refresh rate on old CRT refresh rates seemed to be our initial trigger, but slower things have done it too like sunlight flickering through trees while on a bus.

The lack of contrast might be causing eyestrain in some folks which can cause migraines among other sorts of physical discomfort like dizziness. Had a friend who experienced something similar in the Kholusia areas before you get rid of the endless light weather and in the second half of the Mt. Gulg when you're surrounded by white enemies on a white marble background. I always get disoriented a bit in Aphascape 1.0 with the Bowels of Agony attack where the arena goes black, so maybe this is something similar?

The worry of seizures is definitely understandable OP. If this is something unusual for you, it may have been something compounded with other things like dehydration, eyestrain, or lack of sleep. If it's something you're noticing on the regular, it could be an indicator of needing to see an optometrist or a neurologist. Stay safe!
