I hope the FFXIV is canceled too. It being live action is a failure by design alone. FFXIV should be animated. Either 2D anime style or with SE's own 3D graphics. Live action is a stupid way to go for this series.Nah, there was (is?) a live action series about Cid Garlond being planned.

Eh, it could go very well or very badly. Since the production company behind the Witcher Netflix series and The Expanse is supposedly behind this one as well, I think it could be promising. The Witcher had a few plot holes but it was a fun watch regardless. And The Expanse is the best sci fi show I have ever seen. It wouldn't surprise me if after all this time they abandoned the FF XIV series though. Either way, I wouldn't be opposed to an anime series. I'm not big on anime, though I love the art style, but I'd probably watch that.

It's not that they don't get made, they just don't last for one reason or another, or worst case scenario, as you said, they're just made for cash grab purposes *looks at a certain other mmo that rhymes with mess*It's just MMORPGs just don't get made anymore. It really sucks. We have to deal with the same 'ol for another decade. Like don't get me wrong, FFXIV is good, but the genre really needed something else. To liven it up. I mean, other than Korean and the occasional Chinese dev, these games just don't get made anymore, and those countries make them as cash grabs, 'pay 2 win', rather than good games. FFXIV may go for another 10 years, but I just wonder if there will be enough innovation added to keep it good, and not stagnant, for the next decade.
Western publishers/devs just don't want to invest in anything other than live service, or games where they can throw microtransaction after microtransaction at you anymore; low cost, high reward. It's sad. I don't trust indie studios to make a great product either, they simply don't have the capital. Heck, most of them are scams anyway.

When is less competition ever good for anything?

Well, it's good for LoTRO if nothing else.

I don't think they released a game yet. I heard they bought a studio to make another mmorpg called New World, but that has been pushed back and reception as been lukewarm from what little I read. Now I'm just finding out about about this cancelled LotR mmorpg. I guess Amazon must like this genre?
Maybe not, but when I say "a company like Amazon," I'm talking about a big company that can actually invest in an MMORPG (hopefully without the use of crowdfunding). Maybe it's Amazon or maybe it's another company. I don't know and I don't really care as long as I can see a complete game being made with actual effort shown.
Yes Amazon has the resources to invest in a new division. But the thing about investment is that the investors expect a profit. Unfortunately Amazon Games Studio was essentially just as trash tier as the vast majority of game studios and publishers today. On the way to their string of failures they've burned a ton of money. Expect another string of resumes to emerge.Maybe not, but when I say "a company like Amazon," I'm talking about a big company that can actually invest in an MMORPG (hopefully without the use of crowdfunding).
