I mean, other than Korean and the occasional Chinese dev, these games just don't get made anymore, and those countries make them as cash grabs, 'pay 2 win', rather than good games. FFXIV may go for another 10 years, but I just wonder if there will be enough innovation added to keep it good, and not stagnant, for the next decade.
Western publishers/devs just don't want to invest in anything other than live service, or games where they can throw microtransaction after microtransaction at you anymore; low cost, high reward. It's sad. I don't trust indie studios to make a great product either, they simply don't have the capital. Heck, most of them are scams anyway.
