I don't understand this complaint tbh.

Actually, it's more than about a pair of shorts. If you have played Nier: Automata or even paid attention to the cutscenes in the three raids, 9S' outfit and 2B's are entirely different. The top is different from the design to the accessories attached and even the coloring is different. The "shorts" as you put it, are the most obvious part that is different. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you skipped the cutscenes and didn't even bother to look at the NPC's in game, much less care about them. Don't knock someone's complaint that is legitimate to something as trivial as "I want 9S' shorts for a glam." There are quite a few outfits in this game that are gender locked that would look great on female players; this is especially true for the femroes who have to contend with outfits that were originally tailored for miqo'te, hyur, and au ra. You trivializing what the people here are pointing out is only adding to the problem; so do us all a solid and have the decency to be a bit more respectful. After all, you wouldn't want someone to TLDR your complaints that way would you?
You are overly sensative, and see offense where there is none. I didn't say it wasn't valid. It's a nice outfit and would look good on both male and female avatars.Actually, it's more than about a pair of shorts. I was telling the person above me in a quick tl;dr.
Shorts can be un-gender locked a lot easier than tops. Tops need extra models made to accommodate the boobies. Right now, we see a consistant shorting of allocation of artists to do this - in hairs, and in clothes. Especially hair and hats for the 2 newer races.
I would appreciate more artists assigned to this.
So, please stop being so darned defensive and thinking anyone with a slightly diverged idea is 100% against it. Sheesh.

She's pointing out that SQEX missed an opportunity here to put some really cool stuff in to get people excited about FFXIV as well as the Nier series, and that they failed to provide one of the main characters in another of SQEX's franchises the same courtesy that they gave the more popular (and more sexualized) character. Fans of the Nier franchise know both 2B and 9S; to the point that both characters are mentioned in the same sentence most of the time. The point she's making here is that she was excited to see how they were going to close this collaboration out and she (as well as other people) expected them to give both main characters of the franchise proper due; especially considering they are dropping Nier: Replicant's remaster on the 23rd. They didn't do that and she is letting them know her thoughts and asking them to do better in the future by adding content.
I think that calling it '' gender-locked madness '' is maybe taking it a bit too far lol, especially in FFXIV of all games.
I mean yeah some gear have differences between the gender ( the female gear tends to look five hundred times cooler imo ), but I don't really see the problem with that men and women do wear different clothes irl too.
And if anything even tho people tend to just complain that the female gear doesn't look like the male gear, the female gear is usually way more varied and diverse than the male gear.
What does '' sexualization '' have to do with anything lol. She's pointing out that SQEX missed an opportunity here to put some really cool stuff in to get people excited about FFXIV as well as the Nier series, and that they failed to provide one of the main characters in another of SQEX's franchises the same courtesy that they gave the more popular (and more sexualized) character. I dunno why people keep bringing that up like it's some kind of a jab and negative or something, what was even the point in bringing that up?
Especially when we just got Devola and Popola's attire, I mean then why didn't we get A2's or Kainé's mog instead?
I dunno people can dislike whatever they like but that doesn't make it bad or wrong, just saying that something is sexualized isn't a negative unless you already dislike it.
And I really don't think that has anything to do with what we got or didn't got.
Edit: You also gotta think about it a bit too from the pov of people who haven't played Nier Automata, 2B is a more iconic design and character and who you play as at first.
She also added more unique parts to the game too, 9S is just shorts and a shirt.
2B added way more unique and exciting parts to the game for mogging.
Again it's like I said above about female vs male gear, female gear is generally a lot more varied and diversify the gear more.
All things considered the overwhelming majority of gear is just basic pants and boots, so when we get something else it's a lot more fresh ( not to mention that male characters got it too which added a lot to them ).
9S isn't a bad design, but it'd be more of the same that we already have essentially.
It's because they're modeled after two separate characters in Nier Automata, the female version is modeled after Anemone who was the resistance leader and the male version after Jackass who was basically a quest giver NPC.
Jackass in the game is in the field so her attire is more worn out I guess.
Personally I much prefer the female version but it's just a preference but imo the male version looks too bulky and heavy for dps.

Oh, I see... Still, why not separate them for armor types instead of gender? E.G. Aiming set being Anemone, striking and scouting being the Jackass... Their sets look completely genderless to begin with. It's still a weird decision...It's because they're modeled after two separate characters in Nier Automata, the female version is modeled after Anemone who was the resistance leader and the male version after Jackass who was basically a quest giver NPC.

I just hope the last quest for the series - that I feel that will come in 5.55 - will offer some kind of interesting reward.
