While mentors should definitly have strong knowledge about the game, don't expect them to be wiki-ffxiv either. They're human, not living encyclopedia.

As for the relic requirement you mention, I don't know what's challenging about it.
It takes time. Especially ARR one. Nothing particulary hard to do.
Or maybe being patient nowaday became challenging I imagine.

I'll sum up my opinion quickly:

Having someone to tell you to google something doesn't mean they don't know. The person might be too busy to give you a detailed response. I'm not sure why this is a big deal. If you wanna know something and someone else can't tell you, look it up yourself. It's not hard or a rude action. If you're personally just against looking stuff up, then that's an entirely separate issue.

Also, as someone else said, we aren't your personal wikipedia that you can access anytime you want and we also aren't babysitters. I'll help out anyone who asks me something but if im doing something, that person has to wait or look it up in the meantime. Unless I'm getting paid, I still put myself first. Call it selfish but this isn't a real job either.

On the topic of relics and FATEs, the only thing doing ARR relics taught me was how to multi-task while waiting for the FATEs and dungeon queues I needed. The only thing doing FATEs taught me was that I need to be with a tank to get full credit. None of that is really relevant to mentorship.

I get you wanting to strap it behind super tight requirements to weed out the bad eggs, but that still won't ultimately solve the problem. You can make 100 requirements and you'll still have bad eggs and people who have different personalities. The only way to avoid this is to have Square hand pick all mentors and screen them beforehand. Which will never happen.

TL;DR: Being self-reliant and able to find info on your own isn't a bad thing. FATEs and relics also don't teach you anything relevant to being a mentor.

Gosh as a mentor myself I couldn't care less about the relic, yet I still can help people with anything else.

Anyway, yet another thread on the subject.

Is it an april fool ? I'm just saying, today's date makes it difficult to take anything seriously

Being challenging is not the point. Sometimes people work on relic weapons and have questions about them in the novice network. A mentor probably can't answer them if they've never done one.

I don't think the majority of sprouts will work on them, but occasionally they delay the MSQ to do them. Returners could be at any stage of the game as well and frequently they are doing the ShB relic.

Amusingly "Google it" is the absolute best advice that can be given. Even if the person being asked thinks they know everything about the topic, they might be wrong, and a published guide on one of the major sites has a better chance of being up to date.

Now, as for rude mentors? Report them. Only way to make things better.

    Did you report them?

    No?

    Then why complain?

    Yes?

Probably got one of the 3 strikes towards permaban, congratulations, twice more and they are GONE.

I ran into a mentor that could not break down the full ninja opener in a trial. Clearly a horrible mentor, they need to be held to a higher standard and have that info on the top of their head.

To be a trade mentor you should at the very least have one retainer that is gil capped.
