Mentor system needs an overhaul

Idk where these rude mentors are; I'm on Crystal and I don't see any rude mentors on there. Been to various worlds and every NN chat has been helpful when a question pops up from time to time.

Usually when I *do* see drama, it's 50/50 started by a sprout or mentor, never really more one than the other, and happens every once in a blue moon.

But mentors in general is not an issue imho.
I'm on board for a symbol change though, to something like a watering can if that makes others feel better. The mount is cool, but I've not once come across a mentor that's said they became a mentor for the mount specifically; just folks that wanted to become a mentor to be helpful but decided getting mount while doing so was a mere bonus.

If they *do* get the mount, (on top of previously having had to get those comms) then I'm going to assume they've run content so much to the point they have at least an understanding to help folks with content when asked.

Mentors are not there to know 1000% of the game at a seconds notice. They are there for help when needed, but mentors are still just players that decided they are willing to help other players.

Judging by the novice network it works really well too because questions get answered all of the time.

This is clearly dependant on the server you are playing. Twintania's NN is ususally very helpful in answering questions, despite the occasional drama and "end game" debates, unless the question is asked in German or French and no player or mentor with sufficient enough skill is available (or knows the answer) at the moment (rare but happened).

Exactly. My server's NN is also pretty decent. I'm sure it's hard to process if one server's NN is horrible or unhelpful if that's all someone has known. But it's definitely not like that everywhere.

First post is having sent so many harrasment reports that the gm's don't even bother to contact em anymore about them...

There's a saying about how if you meet one rude person, you've met one rude person, but if everybody you meet today is rude, they've met you.

Just last night, sitting in mentor on hyperion, and yes it's the standard circle of injokes going round and around in the same arguments it always is, but a question comes in, and gets an answer, "compare is in the right click about halfway down" and the person asking got thanked because somebody else hadden't even thought of checking like that. About an hour latter somebody's wistfully wishing that a feature exists, and somebody else chimes in "oh, just do THIS" and two folks are all "wait, what? You can do it that way?" and a bunch of people learned something. Sometimes the answer comes from a bk crown, sometimes it comes from another sprout who stumbled across it themselves and is proud now to have found it all over again.

Other nights it's just this... swamp... of terrible things. You leave the network and try to ignore the bad that's possessed people that night. You hope things will be better in the morning.


I've visited other servers to help friends, and being a different server, they have injokes that I'm not expected to understand. I'm outside looking in. I've sat there, and some of them arn't good. Lamia is under attack from one very persistent troll with more accounts than I want to count... makes it hard to help there.
