They're rolling the updates out slowly. Recently they gave females the ability to wear some of the other HW glamour items like the Expeditioner's Coat and Kecks.

As you said it does take time and they are doing it a little at a time.

As for the Aymeric set, that's cosplay. They're highly unlikely to remove gender locks on any of the cosplay sets since the point is to allow the player to pretend to be the character, which is male in Aymeric's case.

If anything...I want to be able to dye those cosplay sets. Christ Id buy the Scion Liberator outfit right this second if it was dyable.

you do realize that men can't wear all the female outfits out there. Right now, men have more restrictions than women in games. Whether or not they will unlock everything, we cant tell for sure. One thing is for sure. right now it is sorta balanced. male avatars can wear some of the female outfits while female avatars can wear a lot of the male outfits.... balanced right? :P you tell me. wait until they unlock it

But what's the point in lifting genderlock if it means all we'll get from then on is unisex gear that lacks all feminine or masculine flavour? The reason people are against genderlock is precisely because they'd enjoy some "opposite" flavour on their char.
If we can only chose between no genderlock but mostly unisex outfits with no distinct flavour and genderlock but destinclty female/ male outfits, I'd prefer the latter. It already bugs me enough that almost every recent hairstyle is just another variation of "unisex short". At least more mid-lenghts hair would be nice.
Well isn't that the point of this agenda to eventually (decades/centuries) turn us in to grey blobs of no unique flavour? Hive mind of clones thinking the same.

Gender locking outfits/items have and always will a bad idea.

It don't even make much sense from a company's view, as instead of being able to sell to 100% of your player base you are cutting off any not playing x gender.

Men's clothing for women is restricted because women's clothing for men is restricted, and women's clothing for men is restricted because it's basically a bit of a waste of time making it. On the whole, men aren't really interested in dressing like women, outside of the occasional 'haha man in dress funny' bit anyway.

For the most part, I'm fine with the balance they've struck. Most stuff is neutral enough and can be worn by both genders, and stuff that isn't tends to be very gendered, at least on the female side, to the point where the opposite gender would very rarely ever wear it.

It makes sense from a workload perspective. When they can get away with adding an outfit for only one gender, it cuts the time of fitting those items onto player models in half.

This is why it took them so long to get around to making men able to wear bunny outfits etc even after they decided to eventually do it. It's not just a switch they toggle on or off and then they're done.

What confuses me is when they sometimes add male/female items as different sets when they could have just made one item set that shows up differently for both genders. I believe the werewolf costume thing for halloween a couple years ago was like thi, different items for both genders, as well as stuff like racial gear/hempen sets. When they have the ability to just make the same item appear different on both genders like say the dancer artifact set. Or all the other differences between female and male appearances on gear like the added boob adn thigh exposure you see on a lot of female sets vs male sets on the same piece.

If they make a single set instead of separate sets, they can't go back later and remove the gender lock on the appearance if players want it. If they are separate sets, the gender lock can be removed and players can pick which appearance they want to use on their character.
