The thing about G'raha, though, is that the Stormblood narrative was building up to his Noble Self-Sacrifice (tm). Heck, G'raha himself had it all planned out, in detail, how he was going to throw his life away to save the WoL. The Scions caught wind of this, and pretty much forbade him from doing so. For him to nobly self-sacrifice now would be as hackneyed as Nanamo's fake dramatic death was. And if he were to just randomly get offed - what more does that bring to the narrative than anyone else being randomly bumped off? It'd pretty much just be empty shock value. "Oh, my, they spent all this blood, sweat, and tears to keep G'raha alive, and then he's suddenly hit by a truck. Aren't we gritty???"

I agree that Werlyt did Gaius's characterization no favors. I had a rant or two about that on these forums before.

This is how I feel about any of the Scions dying at this point. Just one patch ago we saved them after a long period of them being in genuine danger. The writers could have found a way to have one or more of them stay on the First if they'd felt the need to write them out of the story then - at least then they'd have a happy ending. Killing them just one patch later would be pointless shock value and doesn't add anything to the narrative.
