Cats have 9 lives, so she has 6 more near misses before the 7th one death sticks.

Although, I don't think this will come to pass, as I believe Y'shtola, Thancred, and Urianger are very likely to retire after 6.0 and become NPCs in Eoreza to make room for new characters in season 2 of FFXIV.

So you wouldn't say... feel like you had a personal stake in revenging them, if say, Zenos killed one to see the fire in our eyes? Or Telophoroi boy.

Great for a Dark Knight quest, maybe. Not so good otherwise. The trope "This time ... it's personal" just doesn't work for Zenos.

I think the title is referencing that we're about to see the end of the 7th Astral Era, and the ensuing Calamity set in motion by Fandango and Zenos is starting the 8th Umbral Era, which will likely last until the end of the 6.0 story, which will then kickstart the 8th Astral Era.

That only works though if it's being set up to connect with a Rejoining of another Shard, which this does not appear to be (Fandaniel seems to have no interest or ambition in the Unsundered Ascians' plans to bring back daddy Zodiark by Rejoinings and just wants to be a Kefka-level nhilist, and even the dialogue in the EW teaser doesn't even use the 'Calamity' phrasing at all - it's the "End of Days", the "Coming of the End"). It's clear this isn't going to be a Calamity where a Shard is rejoined, no, this is going to be the Destruction of everything, the End of Days, the fraying of the Star, a restart of the Terminus.).

Arguably though the smallfolk on Hydaelyn would certainly see it like a Calamity and the 'end' of the current Astral Era, but mechanically it is not.

This isn't true at all. Fandaniel has promised Zenos access to Zodiark (5.2) when they first meet. Zodiark can only come back and cause the end of days when the shards are rejoined (ARR plot point).

So it stands to reason Fandaniel is planning the calamity of calamities. Calling it "end of days" or "coming of the end" all implies it will be a huge step up in terms of consequences, not a plan B to the calamity cycle.

I'm expecting something like this. Whatever the exact meaning, and whether it counts as a calamity or not, the title says death to dawn itself, not to a person.

Also, given that 4.5 was literally called a "requiem" and nobody ended up dying, I'm not fretting over any deaths until they happen.

(They probably should have let the Exarch actually die, even if we still woke up young G'raha afterwards and passed on his memories without the soul attached. Same practical result, less "always an excuse to not kill people off".)

If they do anything with G'raha, I expect it to be him replacing Hydaelyn/Zodiark as the new crystal serving as the source of balance to the Source and its shards. Since he literally was part of the Crystal Tower for so long, he'd have enough knowledge and experience with it for him to pull it off. All he'd really need is to be 14/14 before he started to guarantee best results.

Okay, so beyond the picture we have:

New Alliance Raid - YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse

We had the teaser leadup this patch and an idea or two of what could go wrong, but I don't see enough to speculate.

    New Dungeon - Paglth'an

Anybody have any luck matching this against rootwords and other languages? I want to guess this has something to do with the towers. ... what I can find has nothing to do with the towers, it's apparently the amalj'aa home land to the east of thanalan. There IS a tower out that way, but it seems like we're trying to save the homeland, rather then fighting a tower, as of yet. We've apparently not been able to get close to it since 1.0, and with the changes in the world ... everything even rumored then, will be but speculation.

New Trial - The Cloud Deck

Diamond weapon and the cloud deck? So diamond is going to be flight mode?

New Save the Queen Battlefield - Zadnor

Has Zadnor turned up in the lore before? Do you folks expect this to be just a dungeon, or an entire new map? Battlefield feels like an additional map to me.

Paglth'an is the region directly to the south-east of Thanalan which is pretty much deep amalj'aa territory (dialogue in 1.0 stated the amal'jaa stronghold Zaha'rak and the Bowl of Embers was actually in Paglth'an not Thanalan, but I think that was since retconned), so I presume it has something to do with the amal'jaa (fitting, given the amalj'aa were the first to summon a Primal and their race is now pretty much entirelly tempered by said Primal save for a small group of rebels who made up the Brotherhood of Ash. It might involve trying to cure said amalj'aa of their tempering).

As for Diamond Weapon, I wonder if that will end by having a hole blasted through it by a giant cannon?
