No the cherry trees didnt make much sense, but they 'fixed' the ugliness of the map. As far as desert settings go, nothing about that map looks 'desert'. Its a terrible representation of the desert. Should have dirt walkways and cactus






Why "should" it have dirt paths? They're quite capable of working out how to pave a street if they want to.
There's more to deserts and arid settings than just dirt and cactus.
Plus there's a difference between "built in a desert" and "looks like a desert".



Not every desert has cacti, in fact there's a TV Trope for that. And besides it's obvious The Goblet's design space is "oasis" rather than "dusty western town" like you're implying and I for one love how it looks, yeah yeah I know "OPINIONS" but that's all this thread is. What some folks find to be an ugly housing district others find it to be beautiful.
