Frankly, I don't know why anyone would want to go to any of these "venues". ERP or not. Like, I went to one once when it was all happening, supposedly a protest over it or something.. All it was, was people afk in a basement, but not actually afk, and others pretending to be bartenders. I have no idea how anybody finds any of it real interesting, especially adults.

Honestly, I've always thought the whole concept was odd. Like I get RP in a story sense, like your character going through the story. What choices they would make in given situations, etc. But nightclub, or casino RP? Take out the ERP element... It's just a bunch of adults playing pretend. Pretend "staff", though they are APPARENTLY actual "staff", because gil actually changes hands, and they get paid. Wild stuff. Maybe I just have a low attention span.

I'd understand a tavern setting, because that's a typical fantasy element. But a full on nightclub or casino? Again, probably not meant to understand it. Looking at the site, it sounds like you charge real gil for food and drinks? Though it's not explicitly stated, but I am inferring it from the fact your most expensive drink has the benefit of getting a chance at a mogstation item and they're really high by any kind of in character standards. Normally I'd see a steak in character for between 100 and 300 gil, not 10,000 gil.

If the case, the concept is not something I'm against, for some it's that extra level of immersion in exchanging real gil, but I'd expect that to be a couple hundred gil at most, because that seems like the right amount you might pay for food and drink in this world.

But the reason I bring it up is because the amount sets off a red flag in that it sounds like its set up to make bank and it has me curious. What benefit would somebody have going to this venue that charges 10,000 gil for a steak over the many venues that don't charge anything? What is it that you guys do better that it's worth people paying that?

The only one I can see is in the 300,000 drink that gives you a chance (and only a chance) to win a mogstation item.

Because to me, if I saw this on my data centre when looking for events and venues that suit concepts or themes that interest me I'd just look somewhere else. But then I am on the data centre with the largest dedicated RP community and have the luxury of there being oodles of choice.

I'd say its because there a couple of qualities that vary. One is people lore's comprehension and how lore abiding they are. And the other is what people get out of RP.

Tavern RP often has uses for in character meet ups, to get to know new characters. And some go as far as providing entertainment as there are entertainer characters and some people who do some really creative stuff with the in game tools to provide different forms of entertainment, I do some myself, though there are people far better at it than I.

Heck, even room for character development, I've got interesting character development come out of taverns. When I started RPing the concept seemed boring to me and I generally stuck to action, but I learned the benefit of tavern RP and they grew on me.

Nightclubs I guess is a more modern interpretation and possibly with more adult themes, given entertainment in a nightclub context is normally adult in nature. And from the sounds of their site, there's also romantic hook ups. So I expect it's for that kind of RP. From a lore point, there is a nightclub on the first, but it's the only one on the first. And we don't know if the concept exists anywhere on the source. But I don't think too lore bendy for somebody to make one that suits the in game's world.

Well, some ppl find it more comfortable in an in-game nightclub or bar and RP like they in one. I have never been to one but I have to say the idea interesting bc I don't like going to nightclubs irl. I have really bad social anxiety and don't like being around a lot of ppl but when I'm playing games I find it easier to walk up to someone and chat with them in a chatbox. So just think about those who may be in the same boat as me or have something else. Either way, they enjoy it and I don't think it's our place to judge ppl on their likes even if we don't understand them.

I disagree. Bards actually have a built in music feature, so they can actually play music - if they had the skill. As an example, "Night Club" RP would make more sense if this game was Second Life or IMVU, etc, in my opinion.

Real skill belongs to the players who have translated music for the music system. Not every bard playing music wrote the music or even knows how to translate it over, some are just copying the work of others. After a quick search on FF14 bard music found that there is a program that will play musical pieces for you. So goes without saying there are true musicians and those that pretend to have skill when they truly dont.

Side note finding the program confirmed what I thought about a five bard group on Behemoth months back. They put on a awesome show but it was clear that it was Multi-Boxer and no way they were controlling all five manually.

NGL the paying of gil for the services is suspect. Whilst I get paying real gil could add more to the immersion, but 10,000 for a steak is steep. With it being seeming to be real gil, they're gonna make bank. Most venues I see in the RP world only charge pretend gil, I run a tavern with my FC and we at most charge 200gil for something and that's pretend gil & from what I've seen is about average.

I figure a nightclub may have a space if inspired by something like the place in Eulmore or something that fits in the game world, but on this one? I suspect you're right about it. And I am surprised people pay that much because I'm not seeing anything on their website that would give a hook over any of the many free venues out there.

And I guess to answer your earlier question. Really, it varies, there's a diversity in the type of RPers and why they RP and why tavern-type RP can be useful and appealing.

I guess I can break it down to 4 basic types (and probably oversimplifying it):
- People who RP because they like to write, they find the game world interesting and it's a collaborative form of writing for them where they develop characters, write plots and so on.
- People who like the game world and try some kind of pseudo-tabletop experience and it'd be like playing Dungeons and Dragons, maybe with their own simplified ruleset for combat
- People who enjoy the social aspect
- People who self insert and their character is an avatar of themselves in that world.

I can give my perspective at least (as they will vary), I consider myself the first. I love the game's lore, I love writing and I love Final Fantasy in general and this exists as a creative outlet.

I like the social aspect too and you make friends doing it. And I blur into the second point when running plots because you need a system to resolve situation situations especially combat. Though the approach I use is less tabletop inspired but more I'll write combat based on certain mechanics and the reward/outcome is based on how characters react to those mechanics and I will throw in extra points for creativity.

There's other aspects to enjoy. The tavern concept is a good place to meet other players, see how well your characters meld. But it can also be slice-of-life and character development can happen in these social interactions. And the "slice-of-life" genre has a following, so you'll have people who will RP it. You'll find RP for every kind of genre.

You also get people who RP entertainers, which will show up at taverns and other social events, one of my characters is one. But people do some cool stuff with it, we of course know about the bard performance feature, which is one avenue. There's people who write whole dance routines to music. People who write songs in time to music. There's storytellers (which is something I do) and even plays & some of those plays are well done given the tools available.
