Yeah, .0 is a patch. It's just a bigger patch than subsequent patch, but it's still a patch.
Of course, that's not disputed.Of course not adding a new job wouldn't be the end of the game but will make a lot of people disappointed
Considering the state of some of the jobs, specially tank and healer roles, I'm already worried they're adding 2 in 6.0.
That's exactly the point. Even if there were no new jobs released with an expansion, you would still get new story, new level cap for the existing jobs, new zones, new dungeons (lots of them), a new round of patch content including alliances and eight-man raids... just not a new job in addition to all of that.
That's not the amount of content we get in a patch. That's an expansion, and it would still be an expansion without an additional job added to the roster.
Next expansion will most likely be one job added. Particularly a dps
FFXI stopped at 22 and we will be at 20 come 6.0 (19 if you don't count BLU).
So yes, at some point they will have to slow them down or stop completely.
If I had to guess what SE is going to do: I would say next expansion, 1 new job (ranged Magic). 8.0, 1 new job (Melee based, whatever melee that isn't chosen for 6.0) . Then probably stop and focus on story.
By whatever melee isn't chosen for 6.0 I mean:
I am thinking they are going to do something that shares gear with either DRG or NIN as those are the only two outliers. So 6.0 will be Dex or STR based melee, 8.0 will be the opposite.
Maybe 1 more job at 9.0 with Ranged Physical.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
I think they can add casting and aiming for 7.0 and then scouting for 8.0 and then stop (or just skip straight to scouting and stop at 12 DPS). They can still continue with limited jobs even after they stop and actually expand on that idea beyond just Blue Mage.
They aren't obligated to, but for as long as it's feasible for them to do so, they ought to keep doing it. It's a big factor to bring people back into the game/attract new players.
Obviously though they will eventually have to slow down. I wouldn't be shocked at all if 7.0 only had one new job. Every job added means more overhead in the next expansion. More artifact armor sets, more weapons design etc. They seem to be getting around the job story bloat by using role quests instead already. I wonder if they would eventually stop adding new artifact sets for every job too and only for the newer jobs. Probably not as they're a once per expansion thing and not something they have to do with every set of gear, but who knows.
They arnt obligated but MMOs do live and die by what’s available for players to play.
Now that’s out the way, I feel like they should maybe only had added a healer this expac and focused on current jobs, some jobs need total make overs like MNK, I like the small fixes but that class is literally still stuck in ARR with nothing exciting even added to it just constant shuffling of the same combos.
I think what irks me more about the idea of newer jobs or the inability to make them is it would be SE's own fault for falling into the trap. They bend backwards to make every job the exact same thing with different animation effects and then struggle with making the jobs unique. This would have been less of an issue if they didn't over accommodate with the fear of people not being able to play every single class ever for end game content (which they'd still be able to do but they were afraid stupid players would lock others out for their job choice).
Actually, they have promised some features in 6.0 that will release during patches, and it's common practice for at least a few of the things they use as selling points to come in patches - sometimes half-way through the expansion's patch cycle.
Ishgard Housing, normal raids and alliance raids are examples of things that are already promised but won't come in .0. I have a feeling Island Sanctuary won't be out for .0, just like Firmament Restoration wasn't.
