In response to the OP, I don't consider myself a hardcore player at all, but I think even as a "casual player", you should at least try to learn whatever classes you play most frequently, especially in endgame content. I shouldn't need to tell tanks in Expert Roulettes to turn on tank stance, for example, or remind a White Mage in a Seat of Sacrifice party to use their Lilies. This isn't putting someone down for "not getting gud", this is just asking people to understand how to play the classes they choose to in endgame content as a courtesy to their party members.

Expecting someone in leveling roulette to have full mastery of their job you'd need for savage/ultimate? No. But expecting basic compentency, like knowing to aoe large groups or the basic mechanics of your job etc? That's generally fair to expect. You shouldn't demand perfection, but you should be able to expect basic a certain bare bones level of competence from people.

I expect nothing in Leveling, Alliance, or even 50/60/70 roulettes, but Experts and current endgame Trials/Raids is where I expect people to at least understand their class and the mechanics associated with that class. If I see a tank pull in E12 Normal without having stance on, for example, that's a bit concerning. And before anyone counters with the age-old argument of "You don't pay my sub", not knowing how to play your class, especially as a tank or healer, in current endgame content and causing your party to wipe multiple times is a bit disrespectful to their time, in my opinion.

I've been logging back into FFXI in a vain attempt to go back to "the glory days" of my MMO experience and I'll be the first to admit I could never play 2005's FFXI today as an adult. Zero time. Even now I'm overwhelmed with the idea of gearing to 119 to even play with another human soul in Asura. Although there are parts of it I love, I always respected Yoshi's position of keeping FFXIV "casual". I think many can agree it can get a little too far sometimes.

For example when they got rid of the elemental wheel because that caused too many issues with people picking particular classes and jobs in fights. Or slowly meshing the jobs in general into one identical blob in general with essentially different animations. Or gear is just straight up item level increases... which is now 440 levels above real levels now...

Or every single raid/boss is now just ALWAYS a DDR competition in a circle arena. 1.0 had a bazillion issues but at least at the very end you had endgame dungeons, where your loot was dependent on the over all success of the dungeon's completion, and not JUST the boss fight. 2.0 Coil started to continue that direction and it fell off. Another cool thing was... garrison? Was that what it was called? Where it was almost a tower defense battle against beastmen? Another unique cool thing that wasn't all that imposing. It was just ... different.

I can't help but feel like the above isn't going far and beyond breaking the casual spirit of the game as a whole. I missed most of Eureka sadly because life, but I caught up with Boz ... and that was just fates and more DDR battles. Just with a little punishment on mettle and longer leashes on mobs. In no world would I consider this "hardcore". I think casual is being confused with bland and it's a little disappointing sometimes. Especially for someone like me who's been doing the exact same thing from 2.0 to now (with many, many breaks). It's just DDR and Tomes on repeat.

There's another account active that is spamming these forums pretty regularly the last few days under the guise of trying to get information as a "new player". I have a sneaking suspicion that it is him as well, since he is also trying to discuss controversial topics and creating a thread every few hours, but it's hard to say I guess. If my hunch is wrong I will happily eat my words.

Yeah, initially I fell for it but their latest thread... is... yikes, not transparent at all.

Gotta wonder how much time and/or money the dude has invested into this game.
