Roleplay/Partyfinder Discrepancies & Policy Enforcement by GM's

When I started MMOs, word of mouth was the only way any groups got together and met. Even today with my current group it wasn't any system or advertising method that got us together it was literally just a "Hey, lets group up and farm" followed by "here's a discord if you want to chat". Every successful group I've been in has been almost completely done by word of mouth, including some that were over 100 members strong, the members that come in from other avenues tend to leave very quickly.

That's never happened to me I started my fc in January of 2019 and I still haven't gotten any members for that who weren't via PF that actually stayed even when I opened my own venue I've shouted at least once a day and I still didn't get any customers, employees or recruits you probably just got in those groups by coincidence not that that's bad or anything I actually joined my first free company that way

They have deemed the beehive to be suggestive material, and it was implemented with the intention of being nothing more than suggestive. I can't really figure what else to say if you aren't seeing the issue with publicly announcing mature content inside the game, especially when you are doing so in a more explicit nature than otherwise considered simply suggestive material. I really don't know what to say LOL

This is a game children play. That’s how it directly affects people. ERP venues shouldn’t exist in a game children can play. Unless you reeeeeeally like lewding children?

Reading about and participating in are 2 very different things

I have no stake in this, but surely you can see the issues with advertising 18+ erp publicly in a game rated for 13+


I don't care about rp one way or the other. I'm all for rpers having a section in pf for events. But I don't think any company wants 18+ stuff advertised, especially when there have been issues in the past.

I may be remembering wrong but isnt there a quest where we strip down to a bikini to tantalize someone and get info off of them? Wouldnt that count as participating?

Fair points, and agreed that advertising that sort of thing in public is certainly asking for GM attention or worse. However, by the same point, there's been a good few references in this thread that just attack it as degeneracy, a famously vague term that has been used to address anything that isn't the societal norm, or even suggesting (and trying to walk back as unmarked sarcasm) that LGBT+ groups should be kicked off next. The people doing that here are just as bad.

Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking about this stuff. There's a lot of really nasty language and rhetoric in this thread that is concerning to me as a queer person who knows anything about LGBT+ history and how we've been treated in the past.

On Crystal DC, things like the Roleplay Calendar exist. Venues and roleplayers doing events can easily and simply add their event to the google sheet and it is added to a discord bot that automatically updates to anyone's discord server that has the bot.

It's a very popular tool that doesn't require you to put up ads in party finder. The bot automatically lists all current and upcoming events happening in the next 24 hours with in-game location, time in your preferred timezone, and server. No multiposting of ads, no clogging up the party finder.

There are multiple social platforms to use outside of the party finder and of the game itself - ensuring that those who want to see these advertisements consensually can - while those who shouldn't (minors) are not forcibly/inappropriately subjected to seeing it while looking for a crafter kit, etc.

If things like this can be created and events advertised easily and automatically among the RP community - why cause discourse via the usage of party finder?

Yet, my own analysis of visitors who have come to the events that I host, the RP calendar accounts for a small percentage.

It *is* very popular and used all over the place, but it *is* also selective in what it allows. Perhaps there is some correlation there.

I asked guests to select *all* methods where they heard of the event, this should be enlightening why PF has such a draw.

Word of Mouth - 48.5%

Fellowships in their current incarnation, are garbage. Limited number of member space.

To be fair, 1000 is a very large "limited member space", but it does get exceeded sometimes and cause second fellowships to have to get made.

It isn't plausible to tell other players things like, "What are you doing in the other tab anyway?" or "Just don't go into the other tab, problem solved." Especially when the other tab isn't just used for roleplay notifications; I've seen crafters selling items outside of the marketboards, players looking for crafters to help them make something, or other related posts. It is still a shared tab for people who need gear/items or help with content-related things, which means they will see potentially inappropriate listings - even if they're at the bottom.

And as someone in a Discord server who has this bot and I can see venues coming up, it's great. And I think if Square wants to have an explicit policy of 'no advertising in party finder', I think most will be understanding.

However, this isn't the case here. We've been told 'no advertising in PF' and only *some* of the advertising gets struck down. That seems to be a case of the rules being enforced partially or lopsidedly. That's where a lot of the umbrage is being drawn from.
