And what was it he said that broke it? Can't fix it when you are not told. That is the entire issue here. He knows the violation, but not what caused the violation. It does nothing to help the person learn or fix the issue.

It costs nothing to be more aware of how you speak to strangers. People act like it's impossible to know what might've done it, but I don't feel that way. I know when something I say might get me in trouble, but I'm still fully free to speak to other players in game.

Be nicer to people, and choose your words carefully if you have to be critical of someone (like giving gameplay-related suggestions). And limit the profanity. It's not difficult. I've been in plenty of verbal scraps in-game and have yet to be even warned. If someone gets in trouble for it, clearly what they said was significant enough to gaol them. If they can't remember that, again, that's their problem. Be mindful of how you interact with other people. Not sure how many other ways I can say it.

This is why everywhere but public opinion they let you know exactly what you are being punished for or charged with. Not simply "You violated this rule". They Point out exactly what you did to violated said rule. It is literally the only way one can learn from their mistakes.

You're right. So if you screw around with your friends, swearing every third word, calling each other names and stuff, that doesn't mean strangers are okay with it.

People have said that the infraction in question isn't referred to in detail to avoid attacking the people that may have done the reporting. The OP knows what rule they broke, so from now on its best for them to use caution when interacting with strangers.

Some of you act like it's impossible to avoid offending people when thousands of other players do it every single day. It is possible. Just be nicer to people. At best, if you absolutely cannot control yourself, be neutral. Most people who play this are adults, so maybe they need to start acting like it and figure it out themselves. You don't always get what you want in life. So just act like an adult and don't be an ass to everyone you meet. Pretty simple.

When someone is annonymously reported to their university for cheating, (for example), the university does not tell the person reported what exactly they did, because they KNOW that while not everyone is going to do this, the sheer RISK of someone going out of their way to verbally harass/attack/etc. the person they perceive as doing the report. They'd say "you cheated in this class on this test" and that's it. However, something akin to that applied to OPs situation would be "you said this in this dungeon run". Unfortunately that is WAY too specific because now OP would have only 3-7 people to figure out who did the reporting. From there it's easy to narrow down. It's happened to my boyfriend on a different game.

So instead of them giving enough information for you to *find* the person, they give you *just enough info* for you to begin watching what you say and do - that's ultimately what they want for first time offenders, really. No cursing, and no OBJECTIVELY offensive content - we're not talking about people taking personal offense to the color purple or something, but slurs, sexist denigrating comments, cussing, and obviously offensive stuff. Past that, it's up to the discretion of the individual, and if you personally feel you've said something offensive, apologize immediately.

If this thread is to be believed, for a GM to even act on the report the person who filed it couldn't be a bystander. The reported person could easily narrow it down from 3-7 suspects to 1.

That's very worrying if true, yikes. I'm very, VERY glad that it is the way it is now, then, as opposed to the moderate ambivalence towards the system that I felt before.
