While I know we are all doing fun theories, this sort of idea holds a lot of water when it comes to guessing accurately. I remember the lead up to ShB when the BluFever leaks were pretty much known to be accurate, a good number of people kept espousing how Dancer was going to be a healer role. After I thought about it some, I thought that healers, who primarily wear large heavy (and usually white) robes wouldn't really gel with a job that's all about moving and dancing around.

And then of course it was later revealed to be Aiming user.

To be fair, they have technically been melee in almost every game they have shown up in.

Even in XI where they were a support caster, they had a higher rating in maces than they did in Geomancy or handbell.

In regards to Geomancer in the 14 universe, the only two prominent/famous Geomancers that we have ANY information on were known for being master swordsmen as well as Geomancers. Ganen and Seiryu both are one handed sword and magical offhand users (handbelll and "Geomantic Orb" respectively).

And this isn't directed at you, but someone else brought up Conjury and Swallow's Compass. The only thing they have in common with Conjury is the elements they use, and I wasn't aware Conjurers (who dont even use the elements at higher levels) had a globally/shard encompassing lock on the elements. Which they don't even use anymore. Let alone the affinity for shikigami and exorcisms this time around. And The Sai Taisui in Swallow's don't actually have any interruptible casting, it's all magic damage melee and instant casts.

They purposefully left the class this open to take it whichever direction they wanted. It's also worth noting that there is actually nothing in game or in the lorebook stating "this is far eastern conjury" or "Doman's call conjury this". The closest we have is one line in the lorebook stating "scholars say it has similarities to conjury because of the use of wind, water and air." We also have Levava refer to Kyokohu and his school of magic as "Geomancy" not conjury. She knows what a conjurer is, she has met many of them, and she says nothing like "Oh hey far eastern conjurer", she knows they are separate schools of magic.

Have not played FFT in 10+ years, so had to look it up and well you are right that they did use axe/swords.

I think it would be cool, if the new melee class does indeed use scythes, for the job to dual wield single handed scythes that turn into a twinblade scythe during a berserking phase or for AoE attacks.

I doubled back and jumped back on the Berserker train. Berserker was my first guess when I saw Yoshi's second shirt. Part of me still hopes it's Berserker, but I think "Scythe job" is nearly confirmed, based on the evidence I've seen and theories I've read.

The reason why I doubled back on Berserker is because of a number of reasons. My first reason was because I saw "Filth and the FURY." When I saw "fury" Berserker was immediately the first thing in mind. The grim reaper, I think, was a red herring. As opposed to those suggesting Mystic Knight because of the Arabic letters--and that's a good theory, one which I also support--I think the Arabic letters are suggesting that Berserker comes from Thavnair, like the Dancers.

The YouTuber, Zepla, suggested that the first shirt, "No Comment," was a hint at Hummingway presence on the moon. I personally thought No Comment was just a cheeky way of saying, "nothing to say about Sage, here it is."

I'm strongly inclined to think that the Children of Bodom shirt is a further hint at a Scythe job. But someone on Twitter (or Twitch?) suggested that the third shirt was actually a hint at the Magus Sisters.

So I'm expecting: Berserker, Mystic Knight/Rune Knight, Reaper (or whatever else it might be called), or Templar, although Templar, being based on Julien Temple's name, might just be a red herring. Yoshi might've known we'd make that connection after his hint with Sam Raimi.

EDIT: Another reason I think it's Berserker is because it's more or less confirmed that the new DPS job will share Dragoon equipment. Dragoons don't exactly rely on magic, do they? I can't see a job wearing Dragoon-shared gear being a magic caster.

Do note that the Maiming and Fending sets tend to share a lot of elements to the point where many Maiming sets are Fending sets without various accessories. 2 of the Fending jobs make use of MP (PLD and DRK) while a 3rd has a bit of a magic replicated with technology theme to various actions. Just because Dragoon doesn't use MP doesn't mean another Maiming job can't use it.

I'm all for a berserker job in maiming gear,it could use 2h hammers like the girl in eden or the cidd garlemald rival (don't remember his name),or dual 1h axes or maces.

I have been hoping for years for it,since i play mainly melee dps,and my prefered style is brutal style and weapons, and all theses "brutal fighters" ended on the tank role (warrior, dark knight, gunbreaker).

I would be extremly disapointed if the melee class is heavily magical based ( i don't mind a bit like dark knight).

If it's going to be Mystic / Rune Knight (or like that) then it'll be akin to Dark Knight in the sense of impact, maintaining the brutal nature (wont be black mage).

If it's like Ranjit, imo, also think you'll be fine then (if you don't mind dark knight). A reaper would definitely be aggressive, and include physical nature. If it was akin to the Suaron, Golbez, Ex-Death brusier mage then the entire point of them being a bruiser mage was to be physical and visceral (like one idea was just punching the earth to cause a pillar of earth to appear in the enemy, then maybe another hand clenched causing the pillar to erupt in fire, then you might rip into the molten earth or hadouken it or something lol).

I guess I just don't see them making it quite magical, melee, heavy armor, and then failing to give it a impactful vibe. A great point of having a magical melee, abit a kin to Dark Knight (or basically a magical Warrior), in damage dealer role, is that you can have all that crunch, and Goliath bulk, in a magical format (while also dealing damage lol). I've seen people also want Viking like jobs, like picture Thor from Ragnarok, wanting a magical visceral and or crunchy job. Which is sometimes why I say the melee red mage (or anti-red mage).

Since I feel SE does look at feedback and adjust, I imagine, that if it is a magical melee job that is going to be part of the design.

Yeah some sort of berserker would be the best, but i'm totally fine with any job that have that brutal vibe, like mystic/rune knight or a judge could have with a bit of magic.

I'm fine with a class with a scythe too,as long as it's not assassin/agility style,as we have already enough in dps role.

To add to berserker side, they are famous for leaving their guard open in combat, making them vulnerable,in a way, they play with (and laugh at) death.

This also make them very dangerous, and it is often said, that where they go they bring death ,so it could be a hint with yoshi shirt, death say "i'll be where we need me" (if i remember correctly),meaning the warrior of light as berserker would "bring death where we need him".

    Just my 2 cents. ^^
