The last few pages are why I find toxic elitists just as insufferable as toxic casuals.
Entire thread is built on a false premise; Square thought they could do both, but they couldn't. Blowing up one doesn't mean we'd get the other, it could've very well ended up with us getting neither.
I'm going to miss watching the world first race for ultimate, and I really don't like the thought of a chunk of the community waiting two years to get content. But, as I said, they thought they could do it and they couldn't.
"Overpromising" (if you could call it that with a crippling global pandemic) is something these devs do so rarely I can't really begrudge them for making a mistake here. Rather, I see this entire thing as a sign that content drops for savage are a bit too few and far between. We have nothing for these players to look forward to until 6.1 now because the content they were slated to get in 5.5 was delayed, and it's likely too late to find a stopgap measure to hold these players over.
Had this decision been made earlier, perhaps they could've thrown in an Unreal-esque Savage difficulty "rerun" trial or raid to give these players something to do in the meantime. It wouldn't be as grand as an Ultimate, but it would at least be something new to farm and potentially prog if they missed it the first time around.
