I mean just because Zenos picks up a weapon doesn't mean anything from a player job standpoint. Zenos could have 13 scythes but it doesn't mean it's going to be a class, but the fanbase is aggressively frothing at it.I think my main sticking point is that it seems weird that Zenos (whose trailer appearance is being used as "solid evidence"), a swordsman trained in specific styles of swordplay and with a known proclivity for collecting swords, would suddenly pick up a scythe.
I'm also not keen on having the only two Maiming gear set jobs both use polearms (with DRG even able to buy a scythe weapon model). That would be like if the next Scouting gear job also used dual blades, but holds them right-side-up.
Well he did use a katana the same expansion we got a katana wielding job so there is precedence for this to be a hint
That's probably a "lore" reason. Zenos never liked the gunblade used by Garlemald. He suddenly picked up a katana not because he was a massive weeb, but because he was interested in the blade.
Between gunblade and katana, the later is much closer to a scythe. I'd say Zenos originally was attracted to Scythes, maybe due to past life or something in this idea. That's why he was interested in the katana.
While yes he did get katana while in the far east, we got Samurai in a completely different way than "Zenos was it so we got it too." It was in the trailer and then timeline wise we got it before we ever encountered Zenos. Does this mean they are gonna resurrect him from the dead when it's time to fill in the scouting gear category? If Zenos had been the hint for Samurai in Stormblood I would be like "okay cool, there is the hint."
I'm not saying you're for or against the scythe or anything like that by any means, I just don't think it's anything other than Evil Zenos (with scythe always been the bad guy weapon) vs Good Paladin of Light to go with the FF4 theme.
I can't see Yoshi P putting out a scythe/"reaper" anything class for the player base amidst a global pandemic with the amount of deaths there have been. And while people on the official forums might not see it that way, it would inevitably be a PR nightmare.

That is absolutely ridiculous.
Zenos was always intended and designed to be a dark mirror of the WoL. His StB design was very much intended to be Samurai as Shogun(tank) as compared to our Samurai as Ronin(DpS). If i remember right Zenos was also revealed after the full trailer had revealed the WoL as Samurai. While yes he did get katana while in the far east, we got Samurai in a completely different way than "Zenos was it so we got it too." Also Zenos as a variation of one of the jobs we have access to would allow him to be a "friend" and Trust member for a few dungeons.
The thing with zenos is that he wasn't really a samurai in the same sense we were. The way he used the scabbard is similar to the way we get sens and expend them but he was never really a samurai in the way we were so it'd prob be the same way here, has the weapon of the new melee but uses it in a different wayWhile yes he did get katana while in the far east, we got Samurai in a completely different way than "Zenos was it so we got it too." How is a katana similar to scythe. At least a Garlean gunblade is still just a sword when you aren't shooting bullets out of it.That's probably a "lore" reason. Zenos never liked the gunblade used by Garlemald. He suddenly picked up a katana not because he was a massive weeb, but because he was interested in the blade.

Well he was saddled with a nondescript Garlean soldier body until the end of the ShB expansion.
