    I guessed a while back here during new job speculation that perhaps a new maiming or scouting set using melee dps job would be released because so far only one job each uses them and numerous people were adamant that Square doesn't consider that a concern when making new jobs. I know feel pretty vindicated to hear that addressed.

    Why?

    It's a DPS, so it fills the devs goal of always releasing a DPS. Scouting still doesn't have a 2nd job, and they've said that sharing gear is a consideration. The ideal party in the devs eyes is also still 2 tanks, 2 healers, 2 melee and 2 ranged, so it also maintains the balance of jobs per role. 4/4/6/6(3/3).

    DPS jobs help sell expansions, it's as simple as that. If they can have a cool weapon, that's a bonus.

    Since we haven't brought it up in a few months, and with this new information that came to light with the showcase. We currently have a Scion in Radz-at-Han. Coultenet has been in Radz-at-han for a few years now.
    What makes this interesting is: After visiting Doma he has been in Radz combining mudra and arcane geometries after taking an interest in Doman Shinobi. And "quietly devising" new arcane arts. This isn't new news by any means, but worth a mention since we are finally heading that way.

    The main issue I have with the speculation of the new job is that it uses a scythe, which is just an offhand for BTN. Which is why I've personally been more interested in a dual scythe type of weapon, similar to how Zidane in FF9 wields his weapon. I didn't really care for Ranjit's poses and animations with the weapon, so I'm kind've curious just how it's all going to play out in may.

    If melee dps is getting brought ahead of schedule then doing so twice in a row would lead to player frustration, both at 7.0 for people that want to see new stuff in other roles where melee gets special treatment and also potentially later if the goal is to balance the real number of jobs per role because you'd need to skip melee for something like three expacs to bring all the other roles up to cover it.
    You could bump up both ranged at 7.0 and hit scouting at 8.0 which would then just mean it'd be up for being skipped twice after that which wouldn't be abnormal.

    The last bit you're more arguing the balance of jobs per slot, not jobs per role, while also not really acknowledging that Tanks and Healers have the same number of slots as Melee dps. If it's based on slots and not roles then Healers and Tanks are behind, where based on roles they're actually just basically on average.
    If you look at the actual decisions made, according to your logic they should have actually released a melee for 5.0 as that would have balanced Melee vs Ranged dps, but they didn't. There also shouldn't be an expansion where we don't get either a tank or a healer, which we've had.
    Given Healers being split and the comment from Yoshi-p that the comp should be one of each type, there's also an argument that healers should be brought up to six so there are three options for each slot and Tanks while not split are just the same as Melee DPS. Which becomes well... concerning for Magical and Physical Ranged DPS because how many expacs would those roles need to be skipped for new jobs to make that balance happen?

    I wouldn't be surprised if Sage, "Reaper" and a future Scouting job end up being the last standard jobs added for a 4:4:6(2:2:2):6(3:3) ratio. Any future jobs beyond this theorized 20 main jobs are likely to be limited.

    They have already said that they are starting to approach the limit of the number of different weapon types they can effectively model which ended up causing GNB and DNC to have a very limited number of weapon models during 5.X.

    Mate, it's your logic

    You're right, that's not unreasonable, & Melee DPS is a DPS.

    Ok, that being the case, Melee DPS are still behind ranged DPS.

    Physical ranged vs. Magical ranged are balanced against each other right now, and those roles don't seem to be weighted the same as melee vs ranged overall, given, y'know, we're getting a melee over a ranged DPS.

    "Given the comments in the Endwalker interview, it could just be that the reason we didn't get a caster was just so they could do something for the complaints about maiming gear being just DRG at 6.0 rather than waiting til 7.0."

    Scouting is still Ninja only, people complain it also cannot be shared. Scouting is also melee DPS gear.

    Conclusion: Melee DPS for 7.0.


    I personally think they're just not that bothered about all that, which is what I said originally.

    This seems like a reasonable guess tbh, 1 more job, finish on a nice round number with a reasonable balance and spread of jobs and roles. People wanting another caster or ranger will be kinda gutted though.

    I think my main sticking point is that it seems weird that Zenos (whose trailer appearance is being used as "solid evidence"), a swordsman trained in specific styles of swordplay and with a known proclivity for collecting swords, would suddenly pick up a scythe.

    I'm also not keen on having the only two Maiming gear set jobs both use polearms (with DRG even able to buy a scythe weapon model). That would be like if the next Scouting gear job also used dual blades, but holds them right-side-up.

    Would be more interesting than a regular old scythe imo, and thematically it could fit quite well. (to be able to disarm multiple weapon types hence why we'd need the shield from poster boy)
