Why are people so adverse to talking in discord within FC?

Curiously enough, I've never had an issue with men treating me differently once they hear my voice.

And I've used voice chat in both Overwatch and many random FFXIV PF groups.

But I have a very loud personality and a thick 'stereotypical black woman's' - probably because i am one - voice. So maybe folk just don't bother.

Then again I also mention my wife like... all the time.

Or maybe it's because they see I'm a Lalafell in-game. I dunno, tbh.

I just hate Voicechat. I use the FC Chat in game and thats it. I have to hear people all day at work. Im happy when I come home and its silent and nobody talks to me

As mean this might sound, its true... as a bonus i got my wife and our girl as a bonus so at least some times some silence is nice...

Oh yeah... definitely a problem with a lot of the guys who play this game. They can be really clingy and start acting really weird when they think a woman is around, horrifying if they hear it on voice.

My voice hasn't dropped yet at ALL so I still have a very fem voice. Me being on voice calls with one dude here ended up with me having to completely make a new discord because he would stalk my discord.

edit: on the other hand, I do voice calls with 3 other people and we've been doing a story playthrough and it's absolutely fine. just gotta make sure you're not talking to creeps - which is HARD.

Not wrong guys can be very clingy, though from the other side it can also be kinda bad. I became good friends with someone who would randomly flirt with people in a playful matter, and we became even closer friends after she ran into some drama with some guys on the server cause they would be rather clingy cause they took her flirting to mean something. Granted, we are no longer friends cause I told her that maybe flirting with random guys online is not the best idea if you do not want to send them the wrong message. She called me a victim blamer etc . . . seen this happen often though it may just be my DC or maybe an RPer thing idk.

There are mechanics in this game that are bound by various criteria: tanks/healers, DPS, whoever is second on the enmity list, whoever is farthest from the boss, whoever is closest to the boss, etc. There are also mechanics unbound by any rules. Drama is the real-world equivalent of the latter; it is not a gender-bound cast. (And moreover, it's only sometimes interruptable!)

You can fall anywhere on the gender spectrum and still be either the target/victim of drama or the cause.

(Sometimes you can do both simultaneously, if you farm "Drama Llama (Extreme)" often enough. But grinding that particular instance is not a laudable achievement.)

Yeah I agree, that was kind of the point it can be just as bad for guys as it is for girls.

I just don't think that is true, at all. Sure, it does happen, don't get me wrong. I just think girls especially are targeted, as much as I'd hate to say it.

I only use discord for the text feature.

I hate the sound of my voice and I really don't want people to hear how foul mouthed I can be, especially if I feel my play is horrible in the moment.

I don't understand why some people here are so sensitive about it. It was a simple question from someone who seemed disappointed by the lack of use after it was specifically mentioned/ advertised.
No need to get out the pitchforks, nobody is forcing anyone to do it. Giving your personal reasons for not using it is one thing but this "bc chat exists DUH!" or "kids these days" makes it looks like this is a very sensitive topic for some that easily riles them up for whatever reason.

Although gaming has been around for quite some time now, it's still seen as a male dominated thing by many. Escpecially FFXIV seems to attract a lot of women, so it's kinda weird that someone would treat them differently but some still treat them like unicorns.
It was understandable in games where you had maybe one women every 20 men or so, it made for an unexpected surprise; escpecially in games that were targeted more towards a male audience. It probably had less to do with being a woman and more with being something "rare". But here?
It's often quite easy to correctly guess wether someone is male or female from their behaviour but maybe sometimes someone just thought it was a man and were then surprised when it turned out it was a woman all along. I never really understood the reason for it, mostly just taking wild guesses here.

That's probably a good thing in MMOs. I imagine it's quite exhausting if you had to second-guess everything you or someone else said or felt the need to analyse it in order to prevent people from getting the wrong idea and then being clingy or mad.

Aye that is fair, I have no data to back up my claim, and from a perception bases yeah females tend to have it harder I will not disagree with that, though being as most my friends are guys that tend to be socially inept like myself. Thankfully I have yet to run into this problem myself cause I generally take whatever someone says with a grain of salt. Though some may not be as jaded, and may often mistake actions like playful flirting to mean something more then what is and come off as clingy. Personally I am oblivious to flirting and such behavior it goes far over my head.
