Why are people so adverse to talking in discord within FC?

Hey I have the first two. I play on PS4 pro. I just don't have a Kb :c So I have to type on my controller. So in my case.. yeah.. I perfer voice. I also play tom Clancey's The Division. - the first one- So voice helps alot when I have to group up for underground runs or high end raids.

I just hate Voicechat. I use the FC Chat in game and thats it. I have to hear people all day at work. Im happy when I come home and its silent and nobody talks to me

For me at least it's a generational thing. Some of the people in my FC definitely do hang out in Discord all the time, and they're great people. But I started playing MMOs back before there even was Discord (or any legitimate voice chat really) so it's never really been a thing to me. I'll chat in /fc all the time but voice chat has never become part of my "flow" when I'm playing.

I'm more or less the same way, I get the younger group can't function without discord but it shouldn't be a requirement for any content. Also for us console peasants, it's a bit of an inconvenience to drain my phone battery or occupy both PC and PS4 to use a chat system. I'd rather have a discord party chat option on PS4, but that never will happen.

Thirdly, thanks to the generational gap I just can't stomach people who obsess over memes. Many a discord chat I've had to mute people or muscle through late teens, early 20 somethings spout memes out loud ad infinitum during raid only for half to "squirrel" and dip out. Hope my kids don't get like that, yikes.

Last time I joined an FC and tried to interact with them on Discord despite being shy, I was tuned out entirely cause there were already established cliques. On top of that, I am shy as hell, and if I am on FF14, I am playing alone, or talking with a friend/playing with them in-game. Having to open an entirely separate app just to talk to people that probably wont even be investing in talking to me in the first place is not worth my time. If I open Discord, I am talking to already established friends.

If the FC has clearly promoted their discord server, I'd agree that it's strange if they were only using it for the bare minimum. Personally, I don't like any form telephoning which includes voice chats, and have never used Discord at all. I played most MMOs solo and while I feel fine talking in NN, nervousness started during my debute even during sudden /tells (but it has gotten better). So yeah, not comfortable with voice chatting at all. I use it when required for job interviews or so.

This, so much. I've been in a few FCs since I joined the game a few years back, and I simply don't enter public voice channels anymore and stick to private ones with people I know since I've had a couple negative experiences with men the moment they discover I'm a woman when I speak.

Other than that, my other reasons are pretty outlined in the topic by others. I'm on zoom calls most of the day so I'm not often in the mood to finish work for the day and immediately start chatting again, when I'm doing content new for the first time I'm rarely in voice since I want to be immersed, etc. Plus, outside of savage/ultimates, nothing in-game really requires you to be on voice.

Sort off topic, but we had a friend of a friend want join our discord that did not want to mic up cause she was female and did not want to be treated any differently from the "bois" I guess you could say. Yeah, honestly did not work out that way. I think to a degree to some extent female gamers do want to be treated differently within reasonable context. From personal experience I really do not think many feel comfortable being treated just as a guy does a different dynamic.

Yet for some reason people have this thing about being treated differently as it is an inherently bad thing. Not saying you, just a general statement.

Because I get ignored anyways when I talk 99% of the time, why bother with people who are so cliqued that they don't care if one of people is trying to get a group going for maps/farms. But the second someone who has just joined the FC tries, they all jump onto it like it's the only water in a 500 mile radius in the sahara.

Speaking as an older female gamer here, I really don't mind being treated differently, as long as it's not blatant sexism. I have actually had some very amusing experiences in-game when fellow players learn I'm not only female but probably older than their mother! For the most part it has been a very positive experience. I just ignore the occasional idiots.

Oh yeah... definitely a problem with a lot of the guys who play this game. They can be really clingy and start acting really weird when they think a woman is around, horrifying if they hear it on voice.
