You mentioning psycopomps reminds me of the 1.0 gridania opening where yda thinks you're a psycopompNow I'm doing this to "reach" but just for the sake of it since you said you can't see anything.
Hades - ruler of the underworld
Azem - charon / thanatos, friend to Hades.
It's freaking perfect lol.
To carry that on, there are mentions of traveling far and wide, to catch them al... wait wrong line, traveling far and wide and being a shepherd. Repears, or to refer generically psychopomps, would well fit within that as shepherd travelers. Reapers are travelers and shepherds, guiding lost souls. Although if we were going for greek gods I might talk about Nyx, mother to those Fates and Thanatos, linking Azem to Charon is a bit harder than to suggest Nyx.
A symbol of Nyx is stars on the black.
"Herein I commit the chronicle of the traveler. Shepherd to the stars in the dark. . . . " -Azem
Stars in the dark.. souls? REAPER!?!?!
"ALIENS!"
lol. Like I said I did some reaching for you, so if you call it that I'll accept, but you said you couldn't see anything and maybe now you can see potential hints here and there?

O_O........
For real?
I don't recall this- it's been sooooo long lol. But wow if that's the case.
Maybe it's the next job theme maybe it's not the job, but I'm calling some Nyx, Charon, Thantos (Nyx is the mother of those two, and others like the sister Fates- lol), level inspiration for our character then. It's my official fan cannon in so much that it may have influenced the game's underpinnings. Not sure if they'd ever draw it out that far, maybe someone may gripe about being made inspired by a female titan goddess (lame on them lol) or whatever.. but just thinking about it. Feels not bad to blanket over things as a window dressing.
Azem is a psychopomp. Definitely feels like a 'could be', at least inspired, situation.
Edit, like second search result on google:
Thanks Enkidoh lol.Papalymo: "Where are we? Near Gridania you think?"
Yda: "The quiet, the calm, the beautiful flowers. There's only one place it could be!"
Yda: "The great beyond! I do believe we're dead Papalymo!"
Papalymo: "Oh Rhalgr take you and your great beyond!"
Yda (noticing the player): "See? Look, here's a psychopomp come to guide us along!"
Papalymo (noticing a pack of wolves advancing on them): "And what would that make them? Your dearly departed childhood pets come to play fetch?!"
So yeah we were actually mistaken as a spirit guide before, also is a word the game has used before, psychopomp, which is what a reaper is. Not to say it certainly is that, could be we just stumbled onto some Azem inspiration that unrelated to the new job, or I've got some of the finest magic grass in all the shire.
/shrug, but it's fun!![]()

FF14 x Hades

HAHAHA!! Oh wow, and to think as I was reading the first part of your post I was literally about to reply with that very quote, only to scroll further and see you'd already quoted one I had prepared earlier!.O_O........

Either way, good job digging that up! Thanks for that.
It should be pointed out though, that the Gridanian opening in 1.0 (and hell, the other two city state openings as well), were all in the Echo, showing events from ten years earlier when the Archons first arrived in Eorzea under direction from Louisoix, so it might not count (also, Yda was something of a scatterbrain, something shared with her sister, and that whole scene was pretty much just to underline that, and wasn't indicative of anything more than "Yda is being Yda again").

Also indeed.. There is a bit of hot air in the engine I'm using right now (with help of Rymi and your old post lol), but I generally have good time with the whole greek stuff so it's fun to use anyways. I feel like it totally 'could' be of importance, or it could just be a funny alignment and a good time conspiracy theory.
The effort they put into some of the other strings that tie into 5.0 is only part of the reason why I'm okay playing cat's cradle over here though, since they've shown they're capable of thinking as wild as that. Also adds extra fun to our relationship with Hades if we've some extra greek influence ourselves.

From what I have read so far, the names dropped are : Reaper, Necromancer, Assassin, Beastmaster, Templar, Corsair, Hunter.
Another theory I have could be related to Bozja.
For the healers, we have the Essence of the Elder which is called Essence du Sage in French.
So maybe, Duelist which is Duelliste in French could be the name of the next melee job.
But a Duelist with a Scyth seems weird, I don't know.

Throwing my hat with "Specter" / Shinigami However...
From a lore perspective, we had a LOT of death. And from the looks of things in 6.0 the body count is going to explode. I think we become the people that guide the dead to the after life in the job quests and quell bad demons. Demon/Shadow/Shade Hunter would sound cooler than Specter, and we could use some more paranormal content in the game, the Edda sidequest up to the end of PotD was pretty cool. The dead transform into hideous abominations that we have to quell to "free" their souls. Seems about as FFXIV as I can think of.
Also the potential drama that would unfold of we, the WoL, run into some lowly NPC we killed or a friendly NPC we couldn't save...
As the "however" part... it could just be Beastmaster, and the grim reaper shirts were just a red herring. XIV's take on the job. There could be two types of beast masters, ones who hunt (scythe). Others who tame and train (and wield small axes).

A recent interview with Yoshi P has shed some light on the job development process (and is interesting in general, worth a read)
https://www.impulsegamer.com/naoki-y...vs-lore-story/
The pertinent part is right here
So jobs are decided upon from a gameplay perspective first and then are back-filled to fit the lore and story of the game (which explains why no Gunbreakers besides players and Thancred show up on The First). So for speculation, "story-sense" is low on the totem pole of consideration. For jobs that form a large part of the player’s game experience, we conceive them upon placing greater importance on the game experience rather than the story. This is because any constraints relating to the story would be detrimental to the game experience. As such, even though the Warrior of Light’s job changes in the movies for each expansion’s story, we don’t necessarily put the new jobs in the spotlight. For Shadowbringers I had requested Dark Knight in order to depict the pivotal role as Warrior of Darkness. In contrast, the new Gunbreaker and Dancer jobs for Shadowbringers were decided upon after I discussed with the battle system team, and we opted to incorporate new jobs for balancing battles, which adequately addressed requests from players.
So, we actually decide the job first and then devise the story so that it fits well within the game’s universe. Each of FFXIV’s elements are not necessarily determined based on a single direction but instead differ depending on whether we wish to place importance on the story experience or alternately the game experience. Of course, I am very grateful that the battle team, who have the first say, kindly consider the mood of the expansion and story direction when reviewing the possibilities for new jobs.

All things considered i could care less about the name is everyone feeling like it will use a scythe? This job is singlehandedly pulling me out of retirement

Has anyone else thought about the PR nightmare that would happen if they tried to push out a Scythe wielding reaper anything during a global pandemic with millions dead?
