Why are people so adverse to talking in discord within FC?

I'm female, and once that becomes apparent from voice, I get treated a lot differently. Some good, some bad, but definitely different.

This, so much. I've been in a few FCs since I joined the game a few years back, and I simply don't enter public voice channels anymore and stick to private ones with people I know since I've had a couple negative experiences with men the moment they discover I'm a woman when I speak.

Other than that, my other reasons are pretty outlined in the topic by others. I'm on zoom calls most of the day so I'm not often in the mood to finish work for the day and immediately start chatting again, when I'm doing content new for the first time I'm rarely in voice since I want to be immersed, etc. Plus, outside of savage/ultimates, nothing in-game really requires you to be on voice.

My voice hasn't dropped yet at ALL so I still have a very fem voice. Me being on voice calls with one dude here ended up with me having to completely make a new discord because he would stalk my discord.

edit: on the other hand, I do voice calls with 3 other people and we've been doing a story playthrough and it's absolutely fine. just gotta make sure you're not talking to creeps - which is HARD.

Not wrong guys can be very clingy, though from the other side it can also be kinda bad. I became good friends with someone who would randomly flirt with people in a playful matter, and we became even closer friends after she ran into some drama with some guys on the server cause they would be rather clingy cause they took her flirting to mean something. Granted, we are no longer friends cause I told her that maybe flirting with random guys online is not the best idea if you do not want to send them the wrong message. She called me a victim blamer etc . . . seen this happen often though it may just be my DC or maybe an RPer thing idk.

There are mechanics in this game that are bound by various criteria: tanks/healers, DPS, whoever is second on the enmity list, whoever is farthest from the boss, whoever is closest to the boss, etc. There are also mechanics unbound by any rules. Drama is the real-world equivalent of the latter; it is not a gender-bound cast. (And moreover, it's only sometimes interruptable!)

You can fall anywhere on the gender spectrum and still be either the target/victim of drama or the cause.

(Sometimes you can do both simultaneously, if you farm "Drama Llama (Extreme)" often enough. But grinding that particular instance is not a laudable achievement.)

I just don't think that is true, at all. Sure, it does happen, don't get me wrong. I just think girls especially are targeted, as much as I'd hate to say it.

Aye that is fair, I have no data to back up my claim, and from a perception bases yeah females tend to have it harder I will not disagree with that, though being as most my friends are guys that tend to be socially inept like myself. Thankfully I have yet to run into this problem myself cause I generally take whatever someone says with a grain of salt. Though some may not be as jaded, and may often mistake actions like playful flirting to mean something more then what is and come off as clingy. Personally I am oblivious to flirting and such behavior it goes far over my head.

I think certain types of online drama are more likely to have specific 'classes' of target, I agree. I just think 'drama spurred by online interaction' is a wide enough field that I'm not willing to say we women get the majority of it. (I'm not willing to say we don't, either, mind you. I lack sufficient data to make a declaration other than the field overall being broad and not gender-bound.)

I will absolutely agree that we probably get the majority of sexual harassment situations -- or even just 'extremely uncomfortable social interactions' -- that stem from speaking on voice chat, though. Which gives me, as I have put it elsewhere, Large Sadness.
