Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I think male viera in 14 would be weird without a true FF game introducing them. So I can vibe with people who feel like they're "out of place". Hell, even a tie in of a tribe of male viera who banded together out of necessity. Seeing that living together wasn't actually bad, but beneficial, some even begin to question this cultural revulsion of the outside world. So the story starts. This one male viera breaking every rule for others to follow.

Just spitballing here. I think they deserve a big spotlight and not just a create and dump cycle that they would get in 14.

I have never understood what do people find weird about male bunnies, like just what is the reason? Its just an animal feature on a human.

Playboy and its bunny girls would be my guess, at least in the west.

It has, but things tend to get buried in this thread, so I don't mind answering this again. Notes of lore apply to NPCs but we've already seen they explicitly do not apply to the warrior of light. Other in-game examples are things like the male miquotes, their gender distribution is in-line with the viera with only fewer than 5% of the NPCs you see in any miquote settlement being male, the other 95% being female. You can see this if you go to Peering Stones or Forgotten Springs. Similarly the seekers of the moon are also supposed to be a rare and reclusive tribe, yet we can play them.

Another are the duskwight elezen, they're not supposed to be able to leave Gelmorra, and especially not enter the Twelveswood without risking invoking the wrath of the elementals, yet PC duskwight can go to Gridania all they like, and if you start there, you can even be honored in the ceremony revering the elementals, which contradicts the lore.

I'd argue that they would only be 'weird' if they were designed to be weird. I thought that this design looked pretty cool:



If the development team aren't going to give us the missing genders, then I hope that they'll give us enhanced customisation for the existing playable races. If they're not going to do that, either...then I'd find that to be rather baffling in terms of decision making since both features have been very common requests over the years.

Basically the PC is the ultimate Lore-exception, and there are several points that contradict the PC's "lore"

As wereotter mentioned, the prevalence of Miqo'te males, and Duskwights entering Gridania.
There's also Au Ra meeting with Yugiri, and she'll still mention keeping her face hidden so as to not freak out the population.
The same Au Ra can make friends with the Ishgardians pre-HW, when Au Ra were shot on sight due to being confused with Dravanians.
AGAIN with the Au Ra in the Steppe, as your PC can have the name of any of the tribes, yet you're still treated as a stranger, and Lore background is explained as if you wouldn't know it already.
Similarly, the race/gender distribution among players is also greatly different to the one in the Lore: Viera are plentiful, while they're a minority in every other place (because of their taboo against leaving the Wood), Miqo'te are also supposed to be tribal and reclusive in Lore but they're one of the most popular races (probably THE most popular one).
Miqo'te, funny enough, also has a greater gender disparity than Viera do in the Lore. 1 in 10 for the catboys, 1 in 5 for bunboys; while the Lore for Viera males is that of reclusiveness, so is the Moonkeeper lore (as mentioned above); one can notice there's been less than 5 Moonkeeper males between ARR and SB (not counting ShB because the gender disparity in the First doesn't seem to be the same as the Source. Also, the cultural differences are greater and the clans don't exist as such).

Mooncats have the same exact lore, so no problems there. Adventurers don't have to follow their race's customs.

Yeesss a retcon happened after the game reboot, it is pretty strange.

Also Male Miqotes are not isolated from the world compared to Male Viera.
