    -Higurashi no naka koro ni
    -Fullmetal Panic
-Madlax and Noir (not the best written, but still fun)
-Deathnote (until the end where they screwed it up)
    -Katekyou Hitman Reborn!
-Gintama (but only if you get Japanese humor)

And the obligatory (just cause I watch them here on TV every week)
    -One Piece
    -Bleach
    -Naruto
    -Fairy Tail

The four listed above aren't necessarily great, but as a teacher I watched them to have something to talk to my students about and came to enjoy them quite a bit.
(l|l ゚Д゚l) how did I forget slayers and fairy tale?
I also consider those to be 'obligatory' though I don't read/watch OP

You're a teacher... and you watched anime to connect with your students? what do you teach, awesome class?

I'm an English teacher in Japan, so I watched the popular anime and read more popular manga so I could more easily talk with my students. They're much more willing to try and speak English if you talk about a subject they are interested in. ^_^

PS: Don't drink the tap water if you live in Tokyo

Naw, I live in Hokkaido, so water isn't a problem. And actually, the water issue was a bit overblown by the media. Levels only spiked for a day (and it was still safe for adults to drink). But thanks for the concern. ^_^
