Hmm. A solid rationale. I don't see the Trust system as preventative to this though, because on first use they happen with the chronology of events in the game. So going back and doing a dungeon would allow you to use the Trusts of even dead characters, because of the same logic used for why things like doing the Culnarian questline have the Sultana in them, even if you do them between 2.55 and 3.0

Indeed, we don't have confirmation of who is still in the trust system for 81-90 dungeons, other than Estinien, so its entirely possible that someone could be killed off between the last 80 dungeon and the start of Endwalker.
The Twins are very unlikely though, and so is G'raha as we just got him and he's had enough death fake outs as it is.

I'd however put my money on someone like... Matoya.
I think Sharlayan is the next big area they'll be announcing in the May fanfest event, and so with a Sharlayan heavy plot, with more chaarcter development for the twins and the scions as a whole, Matoya or maybe even Krile could be on the chopping block.

They did just give us another DPS. Trust npcs came and went with the story, so it's not a for sure thing. Also, dungeons are sort of timecapsuled to when they come out. If you, say, kill Urianger he's still up for shb dungeons. Just no longer available for anything beyond.

I think any character currently in the dps slot isn't safe.

They did specifically say (and it makes sense) that they're adding Estinien to compensate for the lack of melee DPS trusts, plus he's generally a popular and requested character. I wouldn't take his joining the trust group as a sign that they're angling to kill off one of the others, doubly so when Ryne isn't available for scenario mode.

On the other hand, Lyse is another would-be candidate to fill a melee DPS slot, and she hasn't gotten the job... though it could still happen in future, of course. One way or the other, they're not going to announce her as a trust right now when the last chapter ended with a cliffhanger as to whether she's okay.

Honestly, with the story arc coming to a close I'm half-expecting we're the ones who are going to try/do a heroic sacrifice stunt to save the world, only to be spared by the grace of Hydaelyn or some other super-powered entity.

I do think it would be interesting to see how everyone reacts if they thought we were the ones who were right and proper dead for once.

Would be kinda nice if it was our character ( warrior of light / darkness ) who had to "sacrifice" themself, even if only to return but then they could do a time skip if they wanted to and have our character return 1-2 years later ( or something )

Where's moenbryda ;n; seriously what a waste of her excellent character. She was awesome. I'd have took her over Krile any day.

I'm gonna get a load of flack for saying this, but I felt Haurchefaunts death was poorly done. For starters that Sunlight spear knockoff should have exploded the moment it met his shield, not drill through several layers of metal and haurchefaunt only to fizzle and never appear again. Zepherain never uses that move in normal or extreme.

As an astro at the time, I was pretty damn pissed I couldn't heal/raise him. I will admit the cutscene with him dying was well done.


Papalymos death...well I was sad to see him go. I confess I didn't agree with the logic behind his death though. Then again shinryu at the end of SB was hampered by Zenos controlling it. Getting to see Omega fight it was pretty cool though.

Since then though all our deaths on the allied side have been fake

I am still sad over Papalymo he was one of the first NPC i encountered in 2010 and I felt it was rushed....I have hopes he will pop up haha I have no idea how but I hope he will.

I would like to see the twins less I know they have a big fanbase but they are not my faves. Kirile would not be missed either.

I cried at Moenbryda death, I loved her not the least for her and Urianger history and the way she made him squirm ....
I hope for Alphinaud painful demise, I would buy the expansion just to see him die.

No but with the amount of characters who "die" and come back (some multiple times now) death really is meaningless. Are they dead for real? Will they come back in a few patches? Should I even feel anything about this?
