I've got a bad feeling Endwalker will be Shadowbringers 2.0. Amazing story and music but lacking in content. This whole pandemic business has already delayed 5.3 so why not delay the next expansion to summer 2022? Give them time to reset their release dates and fix some in-engine problems.

Super delaying a game is a sure fire method of suicide. The moment you turn off the content spigot for a very longs time is when people leave.

To be fair, that is what they sort of did in 2012, so FFXIV actually has a missing year between 2012 and 2013. That said, circumstances were different back then and I don't think SE should risk it a second time even if that decision paid off back then.

That wasn't really a delay tho. There was no patch from 1.23b to 2.0. It was, in all essence, and old game being shut down, and 8 months later a new game being turned on.

1.0 shut down in December of 2012 officially. August 2013 is when 2.0 launched. Not even a year.

Yeah, but you have character transfer between the two, so it shares the same continuity. And whether it's a delay or a shutting down of one game, for existing players, the effect is still about not having content for an extended period of time, which is the problem with the idea.

I highly doubt they would release an expansion if they weren't 100% happy with it.

And what should happen between the last content patch 5.5 and the new addon 6.0? 1 year without any new content and waiting? You know that content must be planned, designed, programmend and tested many months before it can be published? And SE has for sure not planned any big content between 5.5 and 6.0 at the moment. Players will not accept having no content for a year and leaving FF XIV or cancelling their subscription until 6.0. You have already written that there was not enough content for you. Would you accept a whole year with no new content?

Your request is really not well thought out and only causes more problems for SE and us players than releasing the Addon (also with maybe less content or some more bugs) later this year. SE will certainly not withdraw any capacities from the Addon in order to implement unplanned content now. That would again lead to shortages and consequent further postponements.
